When did Buck stop making flat ground blades on the 300 series?
I have a 301 that I like a lot but with the thicker blades and hollow grind it doesnt slice nearly as well as my case sodbuster jr.
Its hollow ground as well, but the grind starts almost at the very top of the blade, while on the 301 it starts further down.
What years did Buck make the 301 with flat ground blades and 3 backsprings? And does anyone prefer these knives to the more recent 301s?

I'll let the pros give you the official dates, but Buck went with the Edge 2000 grind in ~1999. They made 3-spring flat ground from late 80s up to ~1999.

I really posted because of the only answer I am fit to give: performance of new vs. old IMO. For me it depends on what I am cutting. For some slicing the new grind works better for me. Things like slicing cardboard. The new grind sucks little green toads for peeling apples, though.

What he said........300Bucks

Well, if I stop there I won't be a has-been-drip-under-pressure. You will have to go back in time and buy one, or you could search the big auctions, flea markets, etc.
The 'quick' look will be for brass liners and long pulls or the scale shield will say BUCK instead of the picture of the knife bolt and hammer. Check out the date code chart in sticky above to see what codes are pre- 99 (if only you have written description). I bet you can go get a flat ground 301 or 303 at the big auction site before the clock strikes midnight.
