I have a pizza riding on this so please let me be right. I told a Prof here at Church that the 300 series was always made by Schrade, and Camillus until they went to the 3 spring/3 blade layout. I'm right, right?

"Oh, send out your light and your truth - let them lead me" Ps43:3

Schrade a couple of years, Camillus till 1986, Buck on to the here-after. Just to be precise, Buck built them with brass liners and two springs in 86,87,88 and 89 then went to the three springs. But to sit in judgement, I would say you are 98% correct. The court fines in your favor............... I like black olives, mushrooms, extra cheese and pepproni......thin crust. Still living at 55 like college days, like it just as much cold on the day after........no matter what the crisis of work, when I had cold pizza for lunch it was a good day...

300Bucks

I figured 300Bucks would know the answer. As far as the bet goes, you used the word "always" and "always" is not 98% of the time. Just my 2 cents worth.

I have quite a few of those "Camillus" 300's. It actually got me started in collecting quite a few Camillus, that is until they went belly up.

Good eye 78. Always is always. No KingsX. They can decide the outcome.

'Always' might come into play as they did make the 86 to 89 before going three spring.
I was being generous to the student....will see if the teacher is..300

I'll just pretend I'm a fullofcrap AKA Democrat, it depends on how you define "always".:D
FWIW he has a USA made trapper pattern (I don't know the #).

Ok, Let's bottomline this...

Buck did not make a commerical slipjoint in house till 1985/86. All previous to that time were contracted first by Schrade (2 years, 301 and 303 only) then by Camillus. After 1986 Buck chose to make in-house the 301,303,309 and 305. But they used the 2 spring design used pre-86. (Note: Here in begins date coding blade tangs).

BUT in 1989 the 3 bladed stockmen (301,303) will have THREE (3) springs AND brass liners. The two blades will naturally have just two.

The four models mentioned above then all become individual blade springed, stainless scale linered knives in 1990. Buck went on to make the two bladed trappers 312 and 314, also converting the 305 into the Clipper model with replacement of the secondary blade with scissors. Later the 310 Whittler was also added and with three blades came three springs. These were NEW in-house production.

ALL OTHER SLIPJOINT MODELS were made by Camillus using the old method until they were phased out of production. This includes the big stockman model 307. Some more modern era Camillus made Bucks were special ordered and sold by Smokey Mountain Knife Works almost up to the point when Camillus factory closed its door, but never using Bucks construction methods of all stainless construction..

Date codes began with 1986. * ONLY * Buck made 300s (and China made) are date coded. * ALL * Camillus made models are *NOT DATE CODED* including the last breath Camillus/SMKW models.

Hope this clears the hot air.
