Okay, I have about $300 to spend on a knife and was thinking that it was about time I picked up a Pumpkin warden, but then the Boss Jack came out, and now the Muk... and as I am sure you can guess I am having a hard time deciding. I love Pumpkin G10 and I can get all of these in that color so what do you guys think?
The knife would be my main small fixed blade (hiking and general everyday tasks). In smaller fixed blades I usually carry my RMD and if I want something a little bigger I will go to my ASH or Regulator. So, now that you know what I have and what my uses will be what would you do?
I know someone will say buy them all and believe me I would like to, but the budget won't permit it.
Thanks in advance and let's here those suggestions! :D

The Boss Jack gives you the most Infi for your "buck" and would split the difference between your RMD and your Ash .... and to be fair those two have most of your bases covered in that size .... so I would be tempted to try a new Busse style and go for the Muk .... they are likely to become a "cherished" model too ....

Muk for sure.

The Boss Jack is like a slightly larger RMD. So you'd be almost repeating there. If you aren't going for a BIG CHOPPER, get the muk.

MUK! Tougher to acquire in the long run, easier to cash out should you change your mind; in my opinion...

Some good points, Muk could be a better investment. But if you have the budget for one knife only, I would say the Boss Jack. It would be more versatile, and still hold it's value.

Muk, because its such a divergence from typical Busse...

You get one of the thinnest Busses ever AND satin finish for under $300 - thats just wild :eek:

I think it is TOO special an offering not to pick up - plus, like was mentioned before, it will be MUCH more easy to sell the Muk and find a BJ if you wind up not liking it where the opposite will not likely be true.

EDIT: another point: you only have 9 more days to grab a Muk, where the BJ will most likely be up for months - maybe you could save up for another Busse before the BJs leave...

I would prefer the BJ personally, but like some others mentioned- The MUK is unique and a highly sought after blade-therefore making it more valuable if you were to ever part with it. For actual usage though, BJ - but value and uniqueness- deff the MUK.

I would go with the boss jack, because mine is the 'if I only had 1 knife' model. It fills all roles, even if it's not great at them comparatively to a dedicated model, and it's still small enough to carry. Though, if you can swing a CABS to go with it, it helps a lot for sheeples.

Thank you all for your responses! I really appreciate them.
Muk seems to be the overall favorite, and there is the point that it will be a little more "cherished" :) down the road.
I don't need a chopper at the moment, my Koster Survivor and Gurkha Khukuri fill that role nicely (mind you we all know that "need" has nothing to do with this thing of ours).
Dennis makes a good point about the repeat factor of the RMD... but LVC has a made a solid argument for the Boss Jack in his threads too...
Oh, LVC I have the Sheeple covered with my Pink Izula, everyone thinks it is "cute".
I will have to do some more thinking and picture ogling over the next couple days, but as TrailWolf pointed out there is time limit on this Muk thing. Oh, thanks for the idea that I could get both TrailWolf... like my bank account needs that thought in my head ;).

Thanks again guys :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:,

My advice: Compare apples to apples... satin & pumpkin at $332 vs satin & pumpkin $432 and the choice might be a bit clearer. ;) You will be able to score a BOSS Jack much easier down the road than the Muk, mostly because I think fewer people will let them go and here is why:
I still say the Muk is the sleeper that many people may underestimate and be pleasantly surprised. It is also about halfway between the very short Game Warden and the 6" BOSS Jack in size which is one of the more rare options in Busse choices. 4.5" blade with 9.5" overall length makes for a great EDC. Not too long, not too short. The only other knife that I can think of that has 4.5" blade with under a 10" total length is a BA3 and that is no spring chicken. The next closest knife at all is the SAR 5 or BAE at 10" followed by the BATAC or SAR 4 at 10.75" but with those last two all you are gaining is a choil or more handle. You can go smaller with a Street of some flavor, but that is literally dropping into a whole different size range. The Pork Belly Skinner might fit in there as well, but the rarity makes it cost prohibitive.

Darn it, I may have just talked myself into another Muk.... :foot: :D

Moses3,
After reading your post, I am curious if the CABS, SCABS had any appeal to you? You say you want a small edc for everyday task. I can't get over how pleased I am with the CABS looks and design. If for some reason you did not like the CABS, SCABS, the MUK seems to be the best choice for what you want, not to mention the profile of a excellent skinning knife, if you do any skinning. I am sure you will be happy regardless of what you get, I was just curious. Thanks!

Of course I narrowed the info a bit in the quote above, but with your criteria and Hog status pricing available (since you appear to qualify if you want to email a pic for it), satin Muck seems to be the way I would go (and did). I love the looks of the new BJ but opted for a satin Muck when I chose between them. I have a RMD and a SAR6 so in an effort not to further duplicate uses, I picked the Muck. Like previously stated, going forward the Muck will be harder to come by, pricey, and a cherrished item most likely.

Jerry has many of us feeling like a kid in a candy store and is making it even harder to decide what INFI to spend our money on. Genius I tell ya!

I agree with you that Jerry does have a considerable genius when it comes to marketing these blades we all seem to love.
Super X, I never liked the Boss Street, something about it just didn't talk to me, but I know that it was a perfect fit for some and I glad you are happy with it because it has great dimensions.
AZTimT (or should I say AZHamT ;)), I appreciate the detailed response and am sorry if it results in another Muk for you :D.
All the comparisons seem to make a solid Muk shaped argument .
