I'm curious ...

If you regularly carry a stockman, do you prefer the "large" Buck 301/371 (or something larger) or the "medium" 303/373 (or something smaller)?

i prefer the 301/371 or larger. I may be (am?) weird, but I don't find the 4.5 ~ 4 9/16 inch Old Timer 858 "too big" for loose in the bottom of front pocket carry.

At age 12 I had a 34ot for a few years and then went to a larger uncle henry stockman about 3 7/8 size, I can’t remember the model. I had a few different stockmans till about 20 years ago and carried a 301 regular until I got a modern knife with a pocket clip. Then after awhile I missed having the variety of three different blades so I got another small case stockman to go with the large modern knife. I now edc a 303 along with a large Vantage pro and that works great for me. But my Sunday go to meeting knife is the 2018 301 forum knife. It’s a great knife!

I have a 307 Wrangler that I use occasionally but more for the novelty of a big stockman as it’s just to big for bottom of the pocket carry. I probably need to get a sheath for it to put on my belt.

As I get older and arthritis making it more difficult to handle small knives I’ll probably switch back to the 301 before long, and I have 5 to choose from lol.

If I carry one, it's usually the little Cadet.

I probably have a larger knife with me as well.

Are those beauties hanging all 303's?
I ask because on the bottom of the case is at least one 301: a 2018 BF 2 blade Stockman.

I can't afford one, but it would be nice if Buck offered the 301 with choices other than the standard black plastic with German Silver bolsters, and the Chairman with Rosewood with brass bolsters.
I'd also like to see a return of the 307. (and be able to afford to get one) 🙂

Not a 301 to be found. All 303 catalog varieties from the first Schrade to the Buck of the Month with brass and elk. Few missing. The Painted Pony is the only one missing. It's a little too "Rhinestone Cowboy" for me to spend money on.

for pocket carry 303 is good size. find the 301 too big when lays flat in pocket. dont care for that. anything bigger than 301 i wouldn't pocket carry at all. belt sheath carry for bigger than 301 for me.

I do like the Buck canoe for pocket carry its a good size...just wish we had a in production usa made one.

I like the 301 size but with two blades. The 2018 Blade Forums knife or this September 2021 Buck of the Month that I carry every day now.

Aside from Official Cub Scout and Boy Scout pocketknives (and a few long forgotten Providence made cheapies), my first good quality pocketknife was a Buck 301, thinking around November 1972. I carried it until my Grandma passed in 1989, it was a gift from her). I put it away and went to smaller Stockman knives made by Schrade USA, but added a Buck 303 after several years. I really prefer a size Buck Knives doesn’t offer - 3-1/2” for me is perfect, so I carry a Case 18 pattern many days. I really, really wish Buck would get serious with a nice line of Idaho made 300 series like they had in the old Camillus days, but until then I alternate a Buck 303, a 34OT, an 897UH, and a box full of Case 18 & 32 patterns for my EDC. OH

I carried a Camillus 72 for years. I’ve realized I don’t like pocket knives with more than 2 blades and they have to be on the same end. I also like wider handle shapes. So no more stockman knives for me. I’d prefer something like a LoomFixer. Or even a Barlow.

This survey was tougher than it should have been. My favorite slippie by a wide margin is the BCCI 301. However, this past month or so, I often find a 303 in my pocket. Very strange. They're both pretty fantastic. My only Chinese made Bucks are a couple of 371's, and I love them too. It's a really useful size in a great configuration.

OH,
I also "really, really wish Buck would get serious with a nice line of Idaho made 300 series." That would be sweet! The sneak peek we had of the 2022 catalog wasn't encouraging in that respect (however, there's a square bolster 112 that's calling my name - excuse the digression, I'm a little excited.) I also hear you about the 3.5" size. I have a Case Texas Jack that sits just between a 303 and a 301. I think it's a 32 pattern with 2 blades. It was advertised as a cv knife, but came with a stainless main and a cv pen blade. Great knife. I'll have to re-visit Case stockmans. My brother has what must be an 18 pattern, and I just didn't take to it.
