OK as most of you know I just got a Buck 301 with bone. I must admit I have been looking for a Buck stockman made in the US to EDC. I lucked out and found one that has bone scales (which I love). After a few responces from the forum, and a call back from Buck knives, it seems there were not many of these produced. Should I put this one in the safe and look for another Buck with the plastic scales? I do like bone better than plastic, and lean towards the bone scale knives. I would just hate to mess up something so nice. I can get a Case stockman any day of the week with bone scales, but this is the first time in a while I have seen a bone handle Buck stockman. Thanks for any advise.

Hi John,

Do yourself a favor and put it away (I should have got that one when i had the chance ;) ). Get another to EDC.

This one I would save. I own 70 odd 300s but I don’t have one of those. I usually say ‘use it’ and it is others who say ‘save it’. Well, now I see their point of view.

Well guys this is what I wanted to know. I put thw 301 in the safe with all the other Bucks I CAN NOT USEb:( . I did think twice about using the 639. I went out today and bought a 119 just so I would not have the urge to go cut something with the 639. Now I am on the hunt for a 301 with plasic scales. What would be a fair price? I have seen them for around $55, is this a little too high?

Thanks,
John

That`s why I only sold one of them.;) I too had never saw one before I found the pair at a pawn shop, of all places!

I wish they would do some more of them, I have one, but won't carry it, but I would love to have a Buck 301 with real bone to carry!

I had one of the Red Bone 301's and sold. I can be pretty stupid sometimes.

i'd get a small pouch for it and carry it. how else is it going to show it self off to other knife folks?

Oh my 301 fever has taken hold.

My opinion, 301 "bones" lie somewhere midway in value between China bucks, new bucks, middle age bucks, old bucks and STAG. You can find them once in a while but will pay a little more than regular black scale 301. I myself need a Brown Bone 303 to make a full set. Look on ebay just to get idea on value of used vs new. Also note blade shape and grind, you may have preference for one particular era. I myself have three 1970's as my EDC rotation. With carefull sharpening they should last me till the cows come home.

Good ole Idahoan made 301 ought to be bought for under 50 greenbacks from a good seller. If I walk up to a counter to buy I prefer to look someone in the eye that at least HAS a knife in their pocket, on their belt or in their handbag.

Yes, most of my female friends and neighbors either carry a small knife or a decent size pair of scissors in their purse. My wife is a school teacher and she carries both a knife and a flashlight.

Well pack rats... You guys do this to me about once every 5 or 6 months.

Get off on this 300 series kick,, just causes me to have to drag out this baggie with 9 or 10 300's in it. Sure nuff, one is a brand spankin new 301 three liner. Too bad I don't have boxes for any of them.

Couple of these are the 303's. I think that is the one I would carry if I was into carrying a 300. That or maybe this minuscule little 305...

Its always fun to drag these out and fondle them some.

Thanks for all the information. One of the great members (you know who you are ;) thanks) here emailed me a link to a few Buck knives, SO I bought another 301 to carry. I was supposed to be saving my money for the gun show this weekend, but this Buck bug has really gotten a hold on me.

Thanks again,
John
