Can anyone tell me, with reasonable certainty, if this has been modified? I’ve seen some with stag scales, and some with a serrated sheepfoot blade, but don’t recall seeing any with both. Of course, all opinions are welcomed. I’d love to know anything that someone may be able to share about it. -Lance 128AC64D-7E12-4089-A2B3-54A4528A2D7F.jpeg 5AB16443-4CA9-443C-8FBA-5FCD8ED179C4.jpeg E09916AA-D6D2-40F4-B970-40B911728814.jpeg 7C8C69E2-C727-43EE-8F36-4A46A9E932F0.jpeg

I love it! Looks real to me. The pins holding the stag on look "aged" like they have always been there. But I really do not know. Man that is nice.:thumbsup:

I have no opinion on the scales but must exclaim that this is the first old traditional Stockman like knife that I have seen with a serrated blade like that. The only thing I have seen that is even close is a modern SAK with that serrated hooked blade.
Just when I think I am not as sheltered and hermit like as I used to be I see something like this. :)

Lance, I’m no expert but could it be someone grabbed a blade slated for a Remington and tossed it on a buck when they were being made?

Definitely looks like it could be another possibility. Whoever did whatever to it, was really good. It has remarkable walk & talk, and the stag is very impressive.

Here's a 1990 Buck 301 with a serrated Sheepsfoot. This was bought from a gun dealer in the early 90s. I have no reason to believe the blade isn't original to the knife:

SMKW had a run made for themselves during this time period in this configuration with black Sawcut Delrin ....have no idea regarding the stag handles

The 1990 dealer catalog has half a page of serrated blade knives the 301 with black handles is there.

The 301 Stockman was offered with a serrated sheepsfoot blade from 1986 thru 89. With sawcut Delrin scales.
I have a old standard 301 with stag scales, but it was made with a undated (pre 86 ) main clip blade, has no spring rivet and nickel scale rivets. I have never been able to place my knife as a catalog offering. But, the old Custom Shop would make small runs of special designs and then they would be offered for sale through word of mouth, the factory store or some special reseller. Both the Op's and mine would be California period knives.
I cannot state it is for certain a Custom Shop or production knife with stag scales. It could be a special order ( such as SMKWs did frequently) made in the factory Custom Shop or they both could be made by a quality craftsman using factory metal knife parts. Neither has a K,B and H scale shield, but I don't think any stag 300 scales ever did.
So, after all that the OP's knife is a 86 - 89 Buck Stockman with serrated sheepsfoot blade. Both knives Stag scales are a bonus from somewhere. As I was saying over in another site, you have to consider several factors in putting a date on these folders. I am guessing he will receive some offers from forum stag hunters.....300Bucks

Pre 1986 301 Stag Stockman, (no date code). No scale shield. No spring rivet showing and nickel scale rivets. Also note the long pull. Who know's Camillus might have made this one.

Just for the look-see, here are two old Elk scale 301's.

Thanks 300! Wow, what a history lesson!

At least one was built in 1990. :D Mine came from a gun shop in the cornfields of Illinois. It's not the kind of place where Custom Shop knives would turn up. The box is a standard 301 box from the era.

I have seen a couple older 301s lately and they had a Winchester emblem were the buck emblem goes does anybody know why
