303 and Quality Control

I buy most of my knives on the internet and I've read a lot recently about Buck's quality control being hit or miss. What do you guys think of the 303 Cadet with the black plastic scales as an EDC? Is the new diamondwood version any different?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I would say that Buck's quality control is AT LEAST as good as anyone else's, and their warranty is about the best, for those FEW bad knives that slip past. That said, I wouldn't have a problem making the Cadet one of my EDC rotations in any scale material.

Buck is one company that I wouldn't hesitate to buy sight unseen. If it's not right, the Buck family will make it right.

If they had any QC issues, I'm sure it was during the set up of the Idaho palnt. Getting a new operation with new personel up to speed sometimes can have a few ptholes along the way. But Buck did not get the loyal following bordering on cult status, by doing hit or miss quality.

If it is that important to you, find a store with a decent selection and look them over before buying.

I recently got a new 303 from an online seller. The quality is great. Mine has the diamondwood scales and I haven't found a single thing wrong with it. It opens smoothly, came very sharp, and the scales are well fitted.

The 303 has been my only EDC for nigh on to 35 years now; big enough for most everyday jobs and small enough to be politically correct in today's environment. Quality control, IMHO, on most is good (maybe not great) for an over the counter production knife in this price range. If you are fortunate to have a store where you can take your pick of three or four, I'm sure you won't have any trouble finding one that will please you. And as others have stated, Buck's warranty is second to none!! The Dymondwood model is pretty much a pimped up version of the black dielrin model and overall quality might be just a tad better.

This year I bought five 301’s and five 303’s cherry wood BUCKS for gifts and looking over the ones inspected before wrapping they all are good quality for the price, add the service and warranty of BUCK and they are a great deal. I have been carrying the DW 301 for about a year and while I was worried about the wood getting dinged up it has held up good although the bolsters seem to scratch and ding up a lot easier than my old Uncle Henery, but for riding around with a lot of keys, tools and other pocket items all is well. Thanks BUCK.
