303 pen blade question

Hello, I recently purchased a Buck 303 and a Buck Trio. The Trio is a gift but I was planning on keeping the 303. They're similar but different so I didn't want to assume they should be the same. The problem is that the pen blade on the 303 rides so low that I can barely get to the nail nick to open it. I wasn't sure if this is just how they are or if I have one with an appreciably lower riding blade than normal. The Trio doesn't suffer from the same issue, but they're different models so I wanted to ask here.
Here are some pics.

I like the knife otherwise but if I can't use the pen blade, there's not much point in having it. I've been carrying a lot of traditional knives lately and don't have this issue. I say that because I did at one point trim my thumb nail too short and had some issues. I'm sure not to do that anymore. So it's not that.

I appreciate any input.

Yep, looks a little low to me. You could send it in to Joe and get another.

Being sort of independent if I had bought it at a good price, I might just get my dremel tool out and grind me a small indention on top of the back scale/liner. Just enough, not too much. But its your call. I wish you would have made a picture of the pen blade open so we could have seen what the situation with the "kick" point on the bottom of the tang is.

Thanks for the reply.
Haha, I couldn't get the darn thing open. After posting pics I finally got it open with the help of a guitar pick.
It's just a hassle and extra expense to send it back so soon after I got it.
As far as getting it for a good price, it was purchased new. I don't generally modify knives. Too bad I didn't buy it locally. (not really anywhere to do that) It would be easier to exchange.
I suppose I should see how to go about getting it taken care of. It's just the right size and I would like to carry it. I haven't yet.

So does that look abnormal? I'm just wanting opinions from other owners of this knife before I send it back. I don't want to send back something that's "within tolerance" and get the same knife back or another with the same issue. If they're generally like this. Basically I don't want to go through the trouble and time to send it back if it's the norm.

Thanks

Looks like the 'kick' on the tang is 'abnormal'. i.e. flattened

Camera angles can change things, but it looks like the tang "kick" is a little low compared to my 303s.

Thanks for the replies. I'll go over to Buck's website and see what I need to do to send it in. I've heard so much about the 303 and 301 that I really want to carry it.

Just wanted to post an update for anyone that might need to contact Buck for warranty service. I just received my 303. They just replaced it. Since it was new that's what I figured.
It was a painless experience and they took good care of me.
There is a major difference between the spey blade on the one I sent back and the one I got in the mail today.
I look forward to carrying my new EDC.

So, thumbs up to Buck.

Thanks again to everyone that replied to the thread.
