Just aquired a Buck 307 Wrangler off Ebay. Slightly used but in excellent condition. A little cleaning and oil made it just like new. I like getting them like this because if I buy a new, never used one I am not as likely to use it. This is an awesome knife. It is too big for EDC for me but will be used when I work outside around the yard. You could skin a bear with this one. In fact, we think a bear came onto our carport the other night and walked off with a container of cat food which weighed 5 or 6 pounds. There are plenty of bear around here but I haven't skinned one as yet. I wish Buck would make the 300 series with a nice variety of handle material. I the 303 in yellow, red jigged bone and a brown jigged bone as well as several black ones. The black handles are tough and great for roung work but it would be wonderful for us slip-joint lovers to have more options in handle materials for the 300 series. They must have made several in the past as I see them on Ebay, flea markets, etc. I know this has been stated but here it is again. Other companies offer more of a variety in handles but IMO Buck makes a solid good pocketknife and the customer service is second to none.

What matters to you matters to God because you matter to God!

Russell,
I believe it is unlikely that Buck will do a lot of different handle materials on the remaining 300 series knives, although they have done some over the years. You might want to consider having someone like Leroy Remer, a former Buck Custom Shop employee, add different inlays to some of your favorites. I saw a set of 300 series knives he did for a good friend of mine in bugundy micarta and they were just outstanding. I have considered having him do a set for me in ivory micarta. Leroy is a real craftsman and his waiting list is not too long. He makes a living as a full time custom knife maker so that speaks to his skill level. As an added bonus, his pricing is reasonable. He can suggest materials he knows look good and he is always willing to get whatever you might want so long as it is available.
Email me if you want to know how to reach Leroy. By the way, Leroy has done several knives for me over the last four years and I will testify that his work is of the highest caliber.

Thanks Larry. I would like to have a price list and some of the materials available. We are on somewhat of a tight budget right now but things like this make nice Christmas gifts. I do like the 300 series although I have several other Buck knives and enjoy each of them. Thanks again for the reply.

Russ, the 307 is (was) a contract knife made for
Buck by Camillus. Not a bad point really;) just
two good American companies working together.

However, the 307 IS my favorite carry knife bar none. I got lucky some time back and got a yellow
handle SMKW special 307 that I use a daily carry.
You might keep an eye out as SMKW has special runs
of Buck/Camillus knives that are really good knives. As far as customs go for me.....nah, mate
we like to use'm to much for that:D

I really like the yellow handles. My first Buck knife was a 303 with yellow handles. My wife and kids gave it to me for my birthday. My wife bought it from a flea market dealer. It was new and around $22 I think. It is still one of my favorites. Does the yellow hold up as well as the black handles? You are right about Camillus/Buck being two great American companies.

Yes, the yellow holds up just fine:)

I like the 307 so much I have "backup" 307's
in case I loose one. 2 yellow and a black. ;)

I've been playing phone tag with Mr. Remer. Just wondering about the macarta. Is it a durable material? I want something nice looking and unique but also something I can carry and use for a long time. Is the burgandy macarta reddesh or more of a brown? I have an old Esquire with macarta handles but they are more of a grayish brown. Just wondering. The ivory sounds like it would be pretty. Thanks for all you help and for all who responded. God bless.

By the way, Tightwad, I've never seen a yellow handled Buck on Ebay. I love my yellow 303. I bet the price would be out of sight. Thanks.

Russell,
Micarta is an extremely durable handle material. You can't go wrong with it. Leroy Remer will do a wonderful job for you.

Russ, I got lucky and found my 1st yellow handle
307 at SMKW on a clearance! Found the second on
e-bay listed in the wrong place.

A call to SMKW told me that the yellow handle 307's
were a 1000 piece run in the 90's that didn't sell
all that well which is why I lucked onto the clearance:) If you'd like one I hope you can find
one as I did. Good luck , mate:cool:
