As I mentioned in a previous thread (the ones that got away) I found a shop that has two 307's (NIB) for sale at $48 apiece.

Does anyone here have any experience, opinions, or info on these knives?

I have not had much luck searching for info online, although their price seems to fall somewhere in the middle of whats being offered online.

A few questions I have -

1. Do you think they are too big or heavy for pocket carry?

2. What years were they in production?

3. Were they made by Buck in house or by Camillus?

4. Do you think $48 is fair price? Would you buy or pass?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

1. No, I carry jumbo stockman patterns a lot and they are OK.

2. Early 70's to late 90's.

3. Always by Camillus

4. $48.00 is towards the high end of what NIB ones go for on Ebay. After Camillus went bust, it seems like there has been a flood of NIB 307's to hit the market. At one time, one Ebay seller had 75 available.

Hi Bear!
Do you have a picture of a Wranler and a Large Stockam (for size comparison) ?

:)

Here you go. I don't currently have a Buck 307 Wrangler, but this Camillus jumbo stockman is the same knife that they made for Buck as the 307.

It's pictured with a Buck 301 3 7/8 Stockman.

Great info and pics, Bear Claw. Thanks.

Does Bucks warranty cover discontinued product lines?

You would probably get a better answer from them. I know in some cases, they have replaced the older broken knife with the closest new equivalent, since parts for these older contract knives have got to be getting thin at this point.

This thread has me wanting to carry that big boy again!!! :D

Warranty-wise yes it is covered and we fix when we can or replace with something comparable when we can't.

Here's a photo of the three standard black Delrin scale 307's. Oldest is Made In USA, then comes BUCK shield and finally BUCK 307 USA. There is a yellow Delrin scale and a couple of other odd balls also. Most of the ones for sale are the third version. Fine larger pocketknife. 300Bucks

Right here is another reason to love Buck knives and the company.

A first hand answer from folks at the top.

One of a few companies that you can talk to the main folks this easy!

BCCL, your pictures remind me of the collection I would like to see presented some time; “The 300s and their Cami equivalents” I have been trying to put together the Cami versions of all the Smokie Mountain ersatz Bucks. The 322 is a mirror image of the Cami Congress knife but all the others have exact Cami doppelgangers. The 329 is a standard trapper. The two Barlows have Cami copies with only changed badgering. The California Toothpick is a regular old fishing knife with the descaling blade left off. The 334 is the same knife as a Cami Buford Pusser trapper. This would make a cool collection.

Well, this thread pushed me over the edge, I found a NIB 307 on Ebay and dropped the hammer on it (the Buck hammer of course!) :D

Early XMASS present to me!

WTG! I see a couple at the the gun show and just may have to add to the collection. They are new and she is only asking 25 a piece so I better grab them.

Well I went and picked one up.

Great "little" Knife!

Now the fun begins. Trying to put a date on it.
It looks just like the third one in 300's pic.

It also came in an all black box with white printing and the "Famous for holding an edge" logo.

All the paper work refers to El Cajon, CA.

Any idea what era this might be? Also, what steel was being used at the time?

Thanks everybody.

If it matches the 3rd one, then probably between 1988-1999. The "BUCK" shield on the second one was only used from 1986-1987 or so if my memory serves.

As for the steel, that can be a question mark. I am not 100% sure that the steels were used at Camillus on the contracted knives, always is the same that Buck used on their factory knives of the same times.

As far as actual daily use, I haven't noticed any significant differences in the steels though, so if they are not the same, they seem to be comparable.

I carried my Camillus one today! :D

OK, I finally dug out the info. sheets here goes:
307s
Tang - BUCK, Made In USA, 307 on reverse tang 1971 - 1974
Tang - BUCK, 307, USA, all on one side, 1974 - 1985
Tang - BUCK, 307, USA, BUCK shield, 1985 - 1987
Then it goes back as
Tang - BUCK, 307, USA, Knife/hammer and bolt shield 1988 -1998

Original paperwork date would be the only way to get a close date on the BUCK,307, USA model. But it just don't really matter as papers can be swapped, exchanged etc. BUCK shield 307 knives are NOT date coded as are other such as 301s and 303s.

As with all Cami made Bucks the usual "offical" steel statement is "unknown" as it could be one of several they used in other knives. And they could have even changed from year to year. But lets just all be pals and say it was 440 and quit wasting time on speculation. As WillTB and BCCL suggest the Cami equivalents and Bucks most likely shared componets, especially as contracts were coming to the end and "supplies on hand" were used to fill the last orders.

Those are nice. Man you folks must have bigger pockets than me. To me a 301 is the most I ever would want to carry. I actually like the 303 a little better for carry. Ok , I'm just a wimp. But those are really nice knives.

That yellow is sweet!

I have yet to find one, the closest I have is this Camillus made under the "Remington" name.

Same knife as a Buck 307, just another great example of Camillus hardware with a different storefront! :D
