I have a 309 with the rosewood handles (Chairman series??) The Buck insignia is missing, judging from what I see on U tube and eBay this is not an isolated instance. I am a user not a collector so it is not something that I lose sleep over but if there is an easy fix or repair I would appreciate your input. Thank you

I am curious. Did you buy it that way or did it fall out while you owned it? I do not know the answer to your question but I would imagine that you'd find another and glue it in. They are not that rare so it doesn't seem worth the effort. It is a nice knife but I collect them.

I bought it that way, as I said I am not a collector so the fact the shield was missing was not a deal breaker. Yes they are a nice knife I have a thing for slip joints (maybe I am a collector) my Father gave me a "jack knife " when I went off to school 73 years ago and other than my time in the Army in the 60's it is the only thing I have ever carried. Very few chores with a knife can't be adequately handled with a 301, 303, or 309. Thank you for your reply

Missing shields isn't strictly a Buck problem. They're often just glued in, and easy to knock off. Even old bone handled knives with pinned shields lose them.

I am not inferring it is a "Buck problem", I just want to know if they have one laying around I can buy, if not that is fine too. I am sure many people far more creative than me have had the same thing happen and have fixed it. I was just hoping one of them would see this post and lead me in the right direction.

Your best bet is to send it in for a Spa treatment..Danny just might find one..
Thought about that and while the knife is 8 yrs old it is near mint condition so not sure if it's worth it as other than the missing shield it needs no "spa work"

I think any spa work would be incidental to the warranty work that Buck would do replacing the shield.

Filling the hole with some type of Epoxy might be your easiest solution. It should be easy to sand smooth considering that the surrounding handle is wood.

If you want a certain color, I saw a post several years ago from a guy who wanted a yellow shield. If I remember correctly, he mixed yellow dye with the Epoxy. It turned out pretty good.

3D printers are becoming more and more common in workplaces. We had several where I used to work but most employees didn’t know we had them.

That might work too if you happen to have one at your workplace and you don’t mind a plastic shield.

I think epoxy is a good idea

If it was mine, I would call Buck and see if they had one. If they don't I would see if they might send me a similar one from another knife. a little work with some carving chisels would make one that was slightly larger fit.

O.B.

I sent them an email asking exactly that but apparently they answer email sporadically, or not at all??? I will be in deer camp next week but will call when I get home. Thank you

The 303 Cadet and 309 Companion share the same size insignia. The 303 in rosewood was in last year's catalog and is still available here and there. When Danny fixes up knives, he has emblems available.

Thank you, sounds like my best option. I appreciate all the responses

that's great news.

I've never lost a shield myself, but I will say that these are the ones I'd most expect to fall out.
The standard shields are flush or below flush and very well fit, these look great and are my favorite Buck shields in that regard but the cutout for them is oversized and they sort of look like they're waiting to fall out.

If Buck ever offers this enameled shield scaled up as a belt Buckle I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
