Just finished HT M390 with 2065F 25 min soak. My kiln is very accurate but this is the first time using molten nitrate salt to quench this steel (normally I use forced air)

But weird thing happen that the foil is stick to the blade like mofo and very difficult to scrape it off even with little 3V chisel.

Never had this problem before. At first I thought this properly due to the salt but I already tempered 3 times and nothing happen...

I try to figure whats going on and it also doesn't seems like the foil is welded to the blade... Anyone ever have this problem I really need some help. Thanks.

yep i have done that before i had too good of a packet made on a s125v folder blade and had to grind the foil off

I have had to grind it off also on 2000F and higher HT. It is just something you live with. I used a regular wood chisel with a sharp edge to get most off, and ground the rest away in the post HT finishing.
Are you sure you have 309 foil. The 321 will stick like crazy at 2000.

Did you put some brown paper inside the foil pack? Seems that stuff smokes up the blade making it darn where the foil doesn't stick so badly. OR - perhaps even talc powder?

It's aggravating when the foil sticks. I still haven't figured out why it only happens some times and not all the time. If you put a piece of paper in the foil, it's less likely to happen. If you sprinkle the blade with baby powder it won't happen which is what I do now for all of them I heat treat.

Baby powder + stainless steel diapers . The never warned us about that in school ! :)
