Anyone ever used 316 Stainless for a frame lock? How did it work out? How thick was the frame?

I was contemplating a 316 x 1/8" thick frame lock.

316 is 304 with Mo added for corrosion resistance. Why this choice ? It can be hardened only by cold working ! Is it available in cold worked state ?

Mostly because it is onhand at work. I was thinking of it for the lock, and not the blade. Are the frames of frame locks usually hardened?

The locks do well with a hardness of 45-50 HRc.You can get some of the 300 series of SS such as 301Full Hard to use as springs probably others too. Ti as mentioned by Steven can also be colored [heat or electro-anodized.. Both are good for framelocks.Hard brass also works but few use them for frame locks.

Brass is highly reactive and heavy. Have been seeing a lot of copper and brass getting used in knives lately, but am generally not a fan....I like coppper as accent metal, and do like a couple higonokami knives that I own with copper as well....but that pattern is a lot easier to take care of if it starts greening out.

Craig Green of Kershaw told me at SHOT that a "puck" or insert of hardened steel helps obviate a lot of the problems of the lockface on framelock knives.
