For any Buck collector that have more than one Buck 317 trailblazer to compare the scales[handles].Ever notice the pattern on the front scale, the saw cut has a repeating pattern left of rivet, and right end of shield.on the reverse [back]side the long wider cut. These pattern show up on each of the 317 trailblazer that i have in my collection

Good eye Chuck,
I checked four and all had the "line" on both sides. i.e. front scale, left of rivet, centered in the left scale space, back scale, left side of rivet, nearer to rivet. With mag. it looks like a glue line or a spot where saw cut engraver changed set-up points. This occured from a first year made knife to a last year or two made knife. One of those collector facts, no one else cares about. Maybe someone knows the reason.

Thanks,300bucks for time taken to compare knives. As collector of Buck knives it's nice to know some of the changes thru the production years.

I am not sure I am understanding correctly but I looked at 2 and noticed something similar. If you look at the side without the shield, between the rivet and the blade end bolster, there is a "stray" line on both knives.
I noticed a similar stray cut pattern on the shield side. This one is between the rivet and the butt end bolster.
Never noticed that before, hopefully it will help to date some of the older 317's. You have an eye for detail Chuck!

Joe,

I have seven which run from the very early ,promised to LO on my demise, salemans sample with scale rivets to the very last era made. All have the same lines. Has to be a production condition. Go figure. One of those OCC's (only collectors care)things.

The big C kills the cat.

Checked some other 300's. Nothing on the smaller sizes. Nothing on 301's, 313's or 311's BUT, on 307's and 315's the mystery line is present, Dr. Watson.

Chuck, Trying not to pirate your thread. That said I know that most of the regular 110 guys would rather watch ice cream melt but it's not often that factory knive guys can get excited and go on and on about there knives. So here's a photo of the lines. Joe I guess it is up to you to ask someone in production what they think.

Look for the mystery lines near the scale rivets. Top 317, 315 MIUSA, 315 USA, 307 MIUSA and 307 USA

The only thing that I can add is that the 315 USA I have has the same line. Preston
