Anyone have up-to-date "insider" knowledge on when these might start rolling out?

Also, What do you think would be faster, ordering through CRK website, or taking my chances with a dealer?

Had a Lunar Landing on order sense June. I have heard nothing. If it is ready before Christmas I will most likely have to cancel the order.
 
Like many others, I have CRK direct orders outstanding since last June. The most recent word I got from CRK is that 31’s with regular blades should start shipping in the January to February ballpark and damascus blades should start shipping in the March to April ballpark. If you want to get one at the earliest possible date, pre-order what you want in one of the main online vendor websites. You won’t get it soon, but at least your order will be in line. When they do finally hit the street, availability will be in limited quantities and intermittent for a while. My guess is that regular, uninterrupted availability of all the configurations of the 31 (inlays and damascus) won’t happen until well into next year or maybe in 2021. It all comes down to how soon they can get through their backlog of outstanding orders.
 
I might be very wrong here, but I think ordering direct will get you one the quickest. I *think* they will fill the orders placed directly and then start making them in mass to send to dealers. The Impinda has only recently been consistently available and I would think the 31 would have a similar delay before it is easy to find one new.

When I asked CRK about that, they told me they’ll start out by doing individual orders alternated with partially filling the big orders from the national vendors with small batches. They made it clear that neither the individual orders nor the big vendor orders "come first" and that for a while, they’ll be doing a back-and-forth shipping balancing act to try to address demand in both categories. People have now had almost six months to place orders, so I suspect an individual direct order placed right now wouldn’t be shipped for a long time. The estimated shipping date on a 31 that’s ordered in any fashion right now will involve an extended wait time. If I was ordering one this week I’d probably go the vendor route, although it might well all be just one big crapshoot.

My order for a Lunar Landing was placed in March. I sent an email to CRK a couple months ago so I’d have a heads-up of when to expect it, and they responded quickly, saying it would possibly be ready in November. I’m not in any rush, but i’m just mentioning it to give others some idea of how much backlog there is on direct orders from CRK.

I think production of the 31’s will be a similar situation, so perhaps pre-ordering from an authorized dealer may be quicker.
 
Other than to a silent select few, they always go to vendors first. Not only is that the way it is, it is also the sensible way. The most loyal/reliable vendors go to the top of the list that is for the Manufacturer’s eyes only. Then the volume gets bled out in a way that causes the least amount of grief for all possible.
 
I ordered one the day they were released. I called them last week. They said they are shooting for first quarter to start rolling them out. June or July though if you ordered Damascus.

I find this timeline quite annoying. I ordered mine way back in June. My receipt says the lead time for plain 31's is 4 months (which is October), and 6 months (December) for the inlay versions. I do not care if it takes 4 days, 4 weeks, 4 months or 4 years. I only ask that you give me a reasonable estimate when the product will be ready and come fairly close to meeting that estimate. I am assuming this company has been in business for at least 31 years. You would think by now they should have learned to be fairly accurate in their estimates.
 
i would guess that this a turbulent time for CRK. Not only are they adding a totally new (well sorta) flagship model into the line up, but they also have to deal with discontinuing the way the 21s are fabricated compared to the 31s. Plus the custom and limited stuff. I would bet anyone's analysis of how things are going to go is a well educated guest. It's certainly more hectic than just adding a new knife to the line up.

I have been promising myself a large 21 for a few years now. It looks like I missed that boat, but that's OK. I've never had a CRK, so i'll go with an Inkosi for now. By mid next year I'll be able to splurge on another knife. Hopefully the 31s are in stock by then.
 
When I ordered mine they told me 12 months, so it may be 13... I ordered a inlay with Damascus. My last knife was 2 months early and the one before was right on time, about 5 and a half months after being told 6.
