Well...I am coming to realize that any respectable slipjoint carrier should at least have one Schrade especially with them shutting down (too bad people didn't realize this before they shut down), but I am not a big fan of delrin.

Were there any 34OT's made with carbon steel and real bone handles? If so, where can I find one and how do I make sure it is real bone and carbon steel blades. Are there certain years or special runs I need to look for. If anyone has pics that would be great.

I also would settle for one other than a 34OT, I just feel like that one is the mainstay.

Thanks...JT

I've not been ignoring this thread, I've been looking, researching. Strangely enough, I can't find any trace of the 34OT being made with bone/carbon steel.

Anyone?

Try finding it with the Schrade Walden NY USA tangstamp, sterling marked bolster, smooth honey brown bone handle, 34OT "SS" stamped blade.

Codger -- Thanks for the help and the e-mail. May have to go ahead and get that one, but really want carbon. I'll have to see.

Phil -- there are a few for sale that I know nothing about. Would you mind if I sent you links for a little help.

Thanks...JT

This may not be what you want at all, but it sounds like you're going to use this knife. Soooo.....maybe get a 34OT with carbon blades, and have one of the knifemakers/customizers put some real nice jigged bone scales on your knife. Wendell Carson (Fightin Bull) does some really nice scales, maybe he would do some for you.
Just another way to skin a squirrel, or cat, or whatever... ;) .

JTurner, send the links, I'll have a look. I did find a few stainless steel, bone handled 34OTs, but no doubt so did you. And I do understand you want carbon steel. Hey, who wouldn't???

Bill, I have a couple of Wendell's Fight'n Bulls... toothpicks of course, one in Mommath Ivory and one smooth bone. Now there is a thought, having a nice Schrade re-handled by that artist.

Just paged through a couple of references. First, Robert Clemente's book. He states that the 34OT was preceded by the Schrade-Walden 834 (same size, blades), with bone 'Meerschaum handles. I checked out the 834 in Sargent's 'guide to American pocket knives and found a couple, in peachseed bone. Carbon steel, of course.

Still, I cannot believe that Schrade never did a special issue 34OT in Bone/Carbon somewhere down the line. We'll keep looking.
