Picked up a 360 on the Bay a year and a half or so ago. A few months back it stopped displaying video. I turned it off and left it at that. Flipped it on Tonight just to see what it would do and got the three red lights. Figured I was out of luck as it was way out of warranty, bought second hand, and I had no receipt. Called MS anyway just to see what the charge would be if I decided to send it in later. No charge and they pay shipping both ways. Apparently they've extended an automatic 3 year warranty on any console with the red lights flashing. No receipt or anything required.

I just thought I'd post this as I'm sure a few have one of these sitting around not functioning.

FYI before you get a warm fuzzy feeling about MS, they didn't extend that warranty out of the goodness of their hearts, but in fear that the massive failures would massively eat into consumer confidence in the 360.

Still, it's great that they're doing that.

they also dont support the old xbox with controllers anymore so its getting hard to find decent ones these days, not so good imho.

glad they helped you out though.

IMO they are only doing what they should anyway. As stated above they were made to do it. I've had to send two back because of RROD and now this one is acting up. I would be more impressed with them if they had released them without the problems. If I had it to do over again I would've gotten a PS3.

Ahh. I see. Still cool though. I've been waiting for a 3D Fallout for 10 years, and this thing decided to crap out on me right before the release.

A guy at our local gamestop swore that in the latest batch of 360's as well as the warranty they offer has redeemed their reputation. Even if the massive warranty extension and fixes are driven to save their sales and reputation. The fact is that they are doing the repair work and replacement and things are working out. Other than some game down time it's at no cost. (Honestly do you guys need your games 24/7?)

I think the latest release has some different type of processor or something technical like that (I don't know much 'bout these things) and are less prone to crapping out.
Microsoft does do a good job with its warranty. I don't really care about their motives in doing so, as long as they do it.
The 360 still remains the best gaming system out there. More versatile than the Wii, and cheaper and with better controllers and online play than the PS3.

I dont need mine 24/7, but it would be nice to have something I paid for work. I also don't like paying for an xbox live subscription that cant be used.
