I would like to know what blade steel is used in the Chinese 37X series of slipjoints so I searched every thread resulting from "China" keyword search of this forum.

I could not find any post by a Buck employee stating which blade steel is used.

I saw 440C mentioned by other forum members. I saw 440C listed on Dantes site. But I could not find any post by CJ Buck about which blade steel is actually used on the Stockman and similar Chinese slipjoints.

I have a beautiful new WM Stockman, #371, in front of me now. There is no blade steel ID on the knife, nor on the box and none in the box.

Can anyone put this question to rest for good?

Thank you kindly.

All the best,

Thank you kindly for that link. You are all right. 440C. Very satisfying.

Now, I need to adjust to carrying a knife with a castrating blade. Suppose that's why they call it a Stockman. http://www.pocketknives.de/pattern_e.htm

When I first saw the short, flattened tip, blade I thought it had been broken and reground dull.

All the best,

Yep, those Spey blades are the terror of bulls everywhere!

I've got an old Case Stockman that was my dad's, can't even begin to count how many Hereford's had the pitch of their "moo" raised by it.
