I acquired this knife about 38 years ago, I'm pretty sure it is a discontinued style. I did an extensive search online and couldn't find anything that looks like it. I'm thinning out some of my collection & trying to obtain a value. Can anyone tell me if this knife is no longer in production & give me a value on it? Thanks, Bernie

The sheath doesn't look helle style. Helle sells blades that you can put a handle on yourself. I'm really not sure, but you could email helle about it. I've done that before, and they were very helpful.

38 ? mine is 66 years old maybe my very oldest knife!
Yours certaily doesn't look like anything the Norske would make . However it may be very possible someone made the handle for himself on an existing blade. I've done that a few times.Sheath doesn't look like production type either.

Assuming it says 'Helle' on the knife and you're sure, that's a tough one.

I DO see some Nordic in it, Mete, but I sure could be wrong.

I'm going to guess it started as a puukko...and it either has a custom ordered handle or someone attached their own retread. The wood, blade and grind, all fit.....but the handle shape and that capnut in particular make me think someone modified a puukko with that handle. It doesn't have the right platform for a Nordic pommel either. Helle would be an appropriate maker too.

The sheath is a total question mark...I can't imagine it came with the original knife.

Looks like it started out as a Helle Nying. I have one from about the same time, and it has the exact same sheath. i first saw it when some Norwegian Paratroopers came to our unit (10th SFGA) and wearing carrying it. It looks to me that someone did a nice job carving a new handle out of the old one. Google Helle Nying, and you can find the knife, but the newer ones have a pouch type sheath. John
