Hi All,

Does anyone have more precise info on 3Cr steel composition/origin?

Several Spyderco folders are listed as 3Cr, but Spyderco's steel chart has no composition. Based on other posts I got the impression that 3Cr is a shorthand for Chinese GB standard 3Cr13 steel, but there are several more Chinese alloys starting with 3Cr though, including 3Cr17Mo and 3Cr2Mo.

On the other hand, there's at least one other 3Cr steel which is low alloy, high carbon steel. The name matches exactly, but it's not a stainless alloy.

I would be interested to know as well. Where's Cliff? ;) I started looking in my zknives app, then saw you had already done it. I love that app!!

On a more personal note: I took a gander at your hobby page and raised an eyebrow when I read Nuclear weapons testing data, and mushroom cloud imagery. LOL Awesome.

Bump, still looking for the info.
And thanks Tdhurl1103, glad it's working for you.

I've seen the Bug/Honeybee/Grasshopper advertised using 3Cr, 3Cr13, 3Cr13MoV...

I believe l can help . 3cr is actually 3cr13MoV. My girlfriend owns a Spyderco grass hopper in this steel. It is a very very inferior steel. Seriously , l rolled an edge on the brand new blade cutting fishing line. And l don't just mean slightly dulled. I mean butter knife dull. It is worse than Aus6 . They do touch up well though. This is NOT a steel you want for actual knife use. But it is very corrosion resistant.

Thanks, that is what I am looking for. Whether 3Cr is abbreviation or shorthand for 3Cr13Mov or not. Alternatively, it can be something worse...
