What makers are doing full 3D machining. I can name a bunch doing 2D texturing and designs from CAD but I know of no one aside from Larry Davidson doing full 3D.

Larry sent me this and I think it warrants some exposure. I can see a ton of potential in it for those custom makers adroit enough with a mill.

This is a pretty basic pattern but with the multi color G10 the effect is sweet. I am guessing that if this catches on you could customize whatever type of scale you want...

I don't know whoelse is doing it either, but I'm sure stoked about it! Textures are really "in" right now. It adds dimensionality to a knife while augmenting grip. But 2D machining really just creates the illusion of dimensionality. 3D machining is kick ass, but not a lot people have 3 or 4 axis CNC mills. I hope it catches on!

I'm sure the designs are going to be great. It is yet another means of expression.

Whether it will "shake up" the knife world is up for debate. As much as something is new and catches fire in dimensional graphics, some others will always appreciate a very simple knife design, devoid of what some may feel is unnessessary embellishment.

I would certainly like some 3-D designs in the collection. I wonder if Darrel Ralph's Aftermath is a 3-D design? Or is it 2-D?

What is in style and out of style is also part of the picture. Take a look at some of the old swords and knives that have unbelievable amount of 3-D detailing on them, some from removal and some from cast methods. At one time, they were the "cats meow", and then lost some lustre for a time being.
