3D Modeling a Knife

What software was that?

Autodesk Inventor Professional. If you are a college student or have a college email address, you should be able to get a free license for a year or two. The full version of the software is fairly expensive, but much cheaper than Solidworks. I still think Solidworks is a little better, but even the student version costs money :o

I used to use 3DS Max years ago while learning to make video game skins and the like. Maya is another program used for 3D modeling, that was a little harder to learn to use than 3DS Max. I've never gotten to play with Solidworks though. :(

I think true CAD tools like Inventor and Solidworks are way easier to use because they are so dimension based. If you understand basic sketch tools, extrusions, revolutions, and repeats you can do some pretty amazing things. All the other tools are just icing on the cake :)

Thank you for the tutorial. I've never used Autodesk but we may still have a Solidworks license at work. There are some open source 3D modeling programs as well. They won't follow the tutorial exactly, but the process should be similar.

That's a great list Bob, thanks! I'll have to look into some of those. Here is a list of CAD softwares. These create solid models as opposed to surface poly meshes.
