The Fallkniven website has some pretty impressive comments about this blade steel. I was wondering if anyone has experience using a knife made with this steel. Thank you.

It shows pretty poor results on my edge retention testing. 3G as well as same Kershaw's SG2. I was very disappointed with Takefu Steels performance:

It is unexpected because composition of SGPS is pretty close to CPM S30V but with higher hardness and Japanese steels usually pretty good - at least from Hitachi.

Thanks, Vassili.

I can heartily recommend this steel and these knives without reservation.

Though I respect your efforts and your data, you might want to step away from your tests to get the "big picture" feel on knife steel performance. Testing rarely tells the whole tale.

My experience with the Fallkniven TK1 and PHK knives is that the 3G is a tremendous steel that takes and holds an edge really, really well. The blades are full convex so they can take some pretty significant hard use without problems due to the blade laminations. Take your pick, any of them will serve you well.

I am seriously looking as a TK6 for an EDC blade, I have had an F1 for sometime and it works very well as a camp knife.

I have 3 knives with 3G/SGPS, as well as several Kershaws in the similar steel they use. In my use I have been reminded more of a powder steel BG42 than S30V performance wise. I like it, with the fairly high Rc's yet no sign of chipping, easy sharpening, and very fine edges I get with the steel. It'll never hang with the S90V's with the huge amount of vanadium carbides giving huge wear resistance S90V is known for. It does approach S30V wear resistance, but IMO takes better, and more stable edges and is easier to get those edges. As I said, it reminds me of BG42, but takes finer edges, easier comparing RC62 BG42 vs.RC62 Super Gold. I like it a lot, and love the edges I can put on it.

Kershaw used it ( Sg1 or SG2) and the edges they got with it on my Ti/JYD 2 SG2 sprint came from the factory easily able to whittle hairs. This feat isn't difficult to accomplish with this steel with DMT's and a good strop on leather with Chrome oxide/green compound.

I have a couple of Fallknivens with the steel, a U2 and one of the newer Tk4 knives.

I like the edge I can get. As to edge retention in comparison to other steels, all I can say is that I don't see much of a difference in comparison to my other constant user knives of the same size (mostly Benchmade's M2 and Spyderco's S30V).
