Who's used them and what do you think?

Str,
I like the Trizact belts in the fine grits, 400 and up. They have a soft edge
and will get into the plunge cuts nicely.

I have some that I have had for several years and they are still of use. They are worth the money they ash for them.

I have use the 3M Trizact belts. They are very nice as long as you don't lean into them = instant death of the belt. Having said that 3M's Canadian distributor treated us like - well - undesireable.

Distributor prices were higher than US retail and service / support was nil.

Ask me who bent over backwards to serve the knife maker community in Canada....

love the gator belts A300 A100 a65 and a45
need to find a few a180 and maybe some a16
nice smoothe finish for the grit they are and last a while if not misstreated

Ok great! I just need to apparently use slower speeds and not lean into them a bunch.

Do they tend to grab hold of things as much as say a ScotchBrite does?

I hog with the norton Blaze 50s, then use the trizact CF (gator) at A300, A160, A100, A65 then the regular Trizact or, better yet the Norton Norzon at X45 and X30. I think the Norzons are a little more durable that the finer Trizacts. Tese more expensive belts save a lot of money over the cheap ones because they last so long.

It's AlO for the handles-don't waste the premium belts on wood or antler.

I ordered three of each one available in Trizact just a bit ago. Figured that would get my taste buds wet and let me see which I like. I did get some new Ceramic ones also. I've been ordering my Cermic belts from A & H abrasives for years because they are not one way directional belts so you can turn them around to squeeze a bit more life out of them, but also because they typically have no felt 'hump' in the belt where it is cut and stuck together at the joint or taped bonded area. I hate that and these are nicely done when it comes to that. I can't say I've been too impressed with how short lived they are though at least not for me.

I'm hoping I like these new ones from Tru Grit as well or better. I can tell you the price was better! I got the Blaze ones and some Norax in finer grit Aluminum Oxide belts. I think its the first time I've AO belts in 2" width in a long time. I usually only got those for wood on my 4 x36 bench sander and nothing else.

Great belts, I use them from about 220 up to 4000 grit.
They dont grab but DONT GET THEM WET!!!!

I use them up to A6 and like them. I buy them 10 at a time for a price brake.
( what is 4000 grit? and who has them?)

They do a really wonderful job and TruGrit has the best prices I've found on them. And I do lean into them a bit.

The only problem I have found is that you can't get a tang flat with anything except a new one. The abrasive has a tendency to wear more in the middle. So when you want to flatten the tang by holding the blade ertically against the platen, use a dic or a diferent belt. The Trizacs will leave a bit of a crown so the bolsters won't lay flat against the tang. They last a long time, too.

Why not? According to 3M they're waterproof and can be used wet. I've never used them wet but I have used them damp from the piece I've been working on.

Where did you find info on Trizact wet usage? It'll be nice to use them wet.
I just want to make sure it's true for belts I have. Trizact belts come in different flavors. It might be that not all of them are for wet usage.

Thanks,
Alex

the grey ones cant get wet. The grit comes off. I think I read that they are coming out with waterproof versions but make sure what you got before you get them wet.

Thanks

What about greenish Trizact CF with tire like surface?
I searched online and found only two waterproof Trizact belts 253FA and 953FA.

A PDF from the 3M site. I'll see if I can find it again and post a link.

EDIT: Can't find it and I've got to go to work but you may be right about it only be certain types. I've found references to 366FA, 253FA, 272LA, 572LA and 268ZA being waterproof but my belts are 237AA
