Anyone hire out their grinding / sharpening to a 3rd party outfit? I'm looking at doing runs of 200 or so of blades for various knives and tools, and am looking for recommendations. Thanks!

No personal experience, but they were a name that came up for me years ago.Larkin Precision operates two state of the art 5-access CNC Berger BG-2 flat grinders. These machines are capable of producing most modern knife design trends. With our combined experience of over twenty years grinding knives, there is not much we cannot do.
Are you just looking for sharpening or both primary bevel grinding and sharpening?Actually just talked to them. Nice guy. Very knowledgeable. Don't do sharpening though just everything else
Ideally full service, but also just sharpening would look intoAre you just looking for sharpening or both primary bevel grinding and sharpening?
Yeah I got that much from him. No final sharpening was the bummer for meLarkin will only do 200 (min) of the exact same blade model. There isn't any variation allowed
Oh gotcha I just thought you were meaning you had multiple models based upon you using the word 'various' in the op. I'm not sure who could sharpen too though, you would probably need to contract that out in a separate step.Yeah I got that much from him. No final sharpening was the bummer for me
I’ve seen some mid techs that the company that did the bevel grind also sharpened the knives and the sharpened edge was terrible, I’d much rather handle the sharpening myself or find a maker that could handle large scale sharpening jobs, you’d likely find several in this form that could handle the blade sharpening and do a far better job than a lot of the industrial companies that just aren’t setup for it or have a different standard of what’s acceptable.Yeah I got that much from him. What sort of knives and what sort of tools are you planning on having made? Steel? Hardness! Is there more assembly that you will be doing?Anyone hire out their grinding / sharpening to a 3rd party outfit? Interesting. I have not explored the mid-tech world until now so I'm new it. I currently make hide tanning dry scrapers, .156" AEB-L hardened to 61RC. Also a few different versions of scandi blades ("sloyd") also AEB-L 61RC, been hollow grinding the bevels on an 8" wheel then honing a flat over that for final sharpening, and I like that touch. I'm starting to hire out as much of of my handle making as I can and I'd like to do the same with the steel so that I can focus on having a tool/knife to sell, I have trouble keeping up with inventory because this is just a side gig for me and I don't have time. What sort of knives and what sort of tools are you planning on having made? If you want to send me a email at edgeknifeworks@gmail.com I’d be interested in talking more about the business side and if I could help you but that’s best done off the forum since you don’t have a membership to openly discuss sales here.I currently make hide tanning dry scrapers, .156" AEB-L hardened to 61RC.
