Dan,

I was wondering if the myraid pitting (very shallow and small kind of like black freckles) is how 3v oxidizes. I don't care about looks nearly as much as performance, and it doesn't make a bit of difference in my pleasure in my new knife, but was just curious if this was normal. There is no rust on my new knife at all, just these little micro pits. Or is that how the steel comes from the factory?

Thanks

That is how it comes from the factory. I hit it with a light scotchbrite belt before glue-up.

I do offer a "satin finish" upgrade for $20....since it involves grinding down below the as-forged layer to get a smooth finish.

I like the "as-forged" (from the mill) finish for 2 reasons: 1 - less work for me :D, and 2 - practically maintenance free for the customer.

If you get any surface rusting at all (which can happen, though 3V does have 7% chromium in it) you just restore the finish by wiping with a scotchbrite pad. No sandpaper needed...no scratches (even from kydex)....no polishing needed....and so on. Very "user friendly".

Thanks for asking!

Sure thing, Bro.

I've gotten more questions recently about this, I think....because the folks that were in on the first run knew about the as-forged-from-the-mill finish.....and what to except.

It bears refreshing now-n-then.

Of course, wouldn't hurt if I wrote up a quick page on the knife. :foot:

:D
