3V, O1, and the like

Sal,

Is there any chance that you'd consider making some of your fixed blades with sprint runs of 3V, O1, INFI, or the like?

Thanks in advance,

Thom

Thom,

Forgive me, but are you joking?

3V -- too hard on the equipment
O1 -- completely different heat treat than stainless steels, would require a coating for the general market
INFI -- entirely a Busse exclusive

Nice steels, but not really in Spyderco's realm, right?

Shiden:
3V is CPM-3V, an ultra-tough semi-stainless steel preferred by the likes of Jerry Hossom. Very good for big combat knives to short swords. Hard as hell to work.

O1 is one of the original carbon non-stainless steels. It is oil-quenched to temper, hence "O". I really like knives made with this particular steel, but it stains and rusts if you look at it funny.

INFI is Jerry Busse's patented carbon steel. AFAIK, no one outside of Busse knows how it's made, but some people have said it's a combination of nitrogen impregnation and a serious heat treat/cryo process (I think... don't quote me.) Either way, it's Busse's steel.

I wish I were intentionally that funny.

First off, a steel is only too hard on the equipment when there isn't sufficient demand. At that point, even annealed 420J is too taxing. Second off, there are a lot of uncoated Randalls made in O1, so a coating isn't always a requirement (though it'd be a good idea).
Finally, INFI's Busse's creation, but that doesn't mean he can't sell some to a nice guy like Sal.

Not saying I wouldn't be pleased as Punch with a VG-10 Temperance or Perrin, but I'd be pleased as Judy if some of them had the steels I mentioned.

Guess so.

I'd love to see more stuff in O1 myself, but... I'm not holding my breath.

Good luck getting some FB's (or the mega-Spydie folder) made in those materials. I'd be second in line.

That's two in line for O1-Sprint Run 'joke' knives! Anyone else? Donutsrule, would owning an O1 Perrin or Temperance ease the wait for your ATR?

Hey, I'm all for a run of Spyderco fixed blades in 3V. Folders too, for that matter. If anybody can get it done, Sal can. 3V is some awesome stuff.

Heh, heh.

I can imagine... oversized and extra-long Ronin (4-5") in O1 or 3V...

Oh, my.

Heheheh.
