3v VS. cabon steel in toughness

hi, CS ,how tough your 3V steel were ? especially compare to CV 、sk5 and o1 from CS?

if you have a clear answer to those Qs here , how do you tests those thing?

Going from this article I'd say it's significantly tougher.

I've heard that used in the recommended 58HRC range it's fairly close to unbreakable, which is why most manufacturers go for 60-61HRC for the extra wear resistance.

but i can not uderstand this :"approaching the levels of S-7 and other shock resistance material" , i never heard of it .
 
S7 is a tool steel used in dies. Very good impact resistance, hence the comparison. Basically 3V is an extremely tough steel that makes very tough knives.
 
S7 is also a shock steel used in jackhammer and other impact bits, if memory serves correct.

Scrap yard Knives has used that steel in many of their older knives.
 
S7 is tougher than 3V but does not compare in edge holding -- assuming both are correctly heat-treated.
