not just any old leaf spring. It was donated by a 1964 Mercury Comet. The chuck of steel in the photo is the same size that I started with. Its 2 1/2 X 1/4 X 4 1/2". First thing I did was weld a handle on it and then started forging the width into itself while working the sides till I had a piece that was 8 X 1 1/4 X 1/4. Most the forging was done with my newly revamped 6 pound straight peen. The blade is 9 1/2" and 1 3/4" at the widest point. The only thing used to shape this blade were hand held hammers.
