There was an small earthquake in Illinois at 4am this morning. I thought someone had crashed their car into our house. I'm building an extra BOB today to keep next to the bed today. I know it was a small one, but it definitely has me focused on making sure I'm prepared.

Did anyone else feel it?

BTW, my dog Buddy tried waking me and my wife up several times before the quake.

I keep my normal BOB in the closet in the bedroom, with a larger bag in the basement. I would just check your supplies and make a list of what you think might be missing. You don't want to create a bunch of small kits that could create indecision when you need to get out fast. Have one well stocked kit that you keep in one easily accessed location.

I was up and about at 4am this morning (Watchful never sleeps :) ). The house had been shuddering all night from the cold, and I didn't notice much... except, at 0400, it sounded like something shifted in the walls.

Kind of a creak noise followed by a clatter, as if the dog (who was in another room sleeping through the entire thing) stood up and shook herself dry. I glanced at the direction of the sound, but that was it so I went back to work.

Other creaks and groans followed from the high winds we had. I didn't even think earthquake until I heard about it at 6:30am this morning on the news.

The earthquake we had a couple years back was stronger; that one I distinctly felt and it woke everyone up in the house.

We felt a small earthquake here in Nebraska a few years back. Just a low, deep rumbling and a few things in the house did shake a bit. It was a very, very odd feeling.

There is a large pit mine near our town. The ground shakes everyday around noon, which is when they blast.

I didn't feel anything but did hear a strange noise around 4am. I guess the center was around Elgin which is a town away from me.

I didn't feel a thing. I'd gone to bed at 2am after perusing bladeforums for a high number of hours (lol). But, apparently someone I know in the Hodgkins/Countryside area felt it, they sent out a text this morning at 4:03 asking if I felt it. I didn't even see the text till I started moving my lazy bones @ 10:30 this morning.

Sycamore, Il was the center I believe. I was at work in Joliet and didn't feel anything (factory) but a guy I work with lives in Morris and said it shook the pictures on his walls.

Dont worry, its just a tremor, before yellowstone goes BANG!

Anecdotally, from what I'm hearing, most people woke up and *heard* it, but didn't feel anything.

That also describes someone I dated briefly.

I am in Aurora and the shaking and noise woke me up.

Stomper, I would like to attend a get together. Thanks for the invite.

i didnt feel it but my son sure did. i thought he just woke up with a dirty diaper or something. then i went back to the room and the news reported we just had an earthquake.

on another note. a few days after i got back from iraq i was sleeping in the barracks when i heard a loud boom. It was on the airbase so i thought it might have been a crash or a fire in the pits. just getting back from iraq i was very quick out of bed.i guess motor attacks do that to yah. but it was none of those. just an earthquake.

Didn't feel a thing either.

But I do live by a trainyard, so I always feel slight vibrations when I'm sleeping.
