Is there any possible way to have a Busse Badger Attack customized by having it cut down to a total blade length of 4"? I live in Connecticut where the legal length of a EDC knife is 4". Unfortunately for me, the sharpened portion of the blade is not always measured but the entire length of the blade from the tip to the handle slabs. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE TO SEND A BADGER ATTACK TO BE GROUND DOWN TO 4" OVERALL? I really like the handle of the knife and its geometry but am torn because I can't carry it everyday legally. Please let me know if anyone knows where I can have this done.

If I were going to have the blade reduced a full 1/2", I would order it like that from Busse so it can be done before heat treating. Otherwise it could be a risk with the temper.

Not sure how much they would charge for that, best bet would be to call the shop at 419-923-6471.

4"? I would just get an AS. It is almost 4" overall and will be MUCH cheaper than a custom BA. As previously mentioned I would not get it done aftermarket, very good chance of screwing up the heat treat.

Kev,

Just put some extended length scales on that thing. Or send it to me and you can use it every time you visit Illannoy.;)

Try asking in the Shop Talk forum here on BFC to see if there is knifemaker in your area who's willing to grind the blade down to 4" for you.

Otherwise, check with NECKA (I think that's the northeastern US knife collectors group) to see if there's a knifemaker member on their list who is in your area.

Make certain the knifemaker you choose KNOWS to grind the blade slow enough (i.e. steel gets barely warm) to not blow out the temper at the edge, because they will NOT be able to re-heat-treat the blade back to Busse toughness.

(edited to add) Allow only a knifemaker to do this grinding for you, no one else!! I once went with a machinist to do some grinding on a knife and it was a mistake. Don't repeat my mistake. For knife work, go to a knifemaker only!

How bout just carrying it and not worrying about stupid laws like that one.Any one who is gonna run you in for carrying that knife in the outdoors is gonna run you in anyways.
