I'm new to the power tool world, and have been making pistol grips for a hobby and plan on sharpening my knives on a Belt Sander soon. I would like to make a knife someday.
The knife making world seems to prefer a 1" to 2" belt sander. Does anyone use a 4"? I'm guessing the wider the belt the more problematic in making an even cut onto a contoured blade.
I have a 1" by 42" Delta coming to my home shortly. I'm asking about the 4" because I plan on getting one.
Lowes has an inhouse brand called Tradesman. It has more horsepower than the Delta, and variable speed too. But Lowes own polls suggest users give it a 3 out of 5, while the Delta gets a 4 out of 5.
Does anyone have any experience with the Tradesman, and 4" belt sanders?
Thanks,
munk
