Pete had me make these sheaths for these Dan Gray knives..Just wanted to see what everybody thought of them, and to let everybody know what I have been up to..Now back to some knives:D
Bruce

Bruce; They look nice to me. Is that leather inserts on them??
Dan: Bring a couple down to the hammer-in so we can check them out.

Thanks George,Yes they are leather covered bodies with NS throat and tips,And one all NS sheath..
These have to be sent back to Pete as he owns the knives now.But I bet Dan has some other killer looking knives to bring with him.

Hi George
Bruce is right those are gone

I'm sure Pete would
send one or two back to me to bring down If Asked.

Bruce Nice looking job on them.

I'll try to bring something down
I'm back logged about 28 Knives
so my customers are real interested in getting them ASAP
But I may have something that's done but not yet sent..

Here's perhaps a better picture of one of the bowies
I made for Pete, before it got sent to Bruce
(one of the ones Bruce pictured above) and Bruce
made the sheath for ..

Wow! Dan, those are fantastic knives, and Bruce you did them real justice with the beautiful sheaths. The owner could not have picked a better sheath maker for those traditional bowies. Knives like these are why I'm a knife nut! You just made my day, thanks Bruce.

Awsome sheaths and knives, realy nice work.

Bruce, did you use a wooden body and then leather cover?

I know this is Bruce-E's thread but
I do want to thank you all for the comments On my Knives.
and Bruce-E's  sheaths do complement them nicely.

Dan,This is both of our thread since you made the knives and I did the sheaths....
I'm just glad everybody likes them, and would also like to say thanks for all the great comments about both...
Bruce

Dan-

Any time you want to take any (or all) of these bowies to a hammer-in or a show, etc., just let me know in time to ship them to you. That goes for any or all of them, including the early ones. I know many that you have built for me are one of a kind and I would be happy to do this. Since they are all close representations of originals, I could also include a pic of the original, if that would help any. I know, being the bowie lover that I am, I would get pretty excited if I saw a display like this.

Thanks Pete
I do thank you, I knew you would as same you did the
one Chuck did one of the sheaths for.
maybe one of the shows I may hit I can show a display of them.
I'm not interesting in selling at the shows anyway
just meeting the guys is cool. and show some work.
Will do on the N/S

:)

As usual, nice work Bruce.
How is the button used? I'm guessing sheath tucked in the belt and the button threaded through a hole?

Tracy,The sheath can be slide between the pants and belt and the button hooked over the belt.Or they would make a wrap out of leather with a belt loop on it that slid up the sheath and the button hooked in a hole in the wrap then they hung it like a regular sheath..At least that is the way I have heard it.Someone might know better than me,I just know that they had them on the sheath so I put them on them also...

Tracy-

The most common way of using this button on the metal throat was to fashion a leather "frog" with two belt loops.(I think the word frog is a Naval term). The button then held the sheath onto the frog and wouldn't let it slip out. The sheath could be carried on the belt at much the same heighth and angle as a modern all-leather sheath. Once these frogs were fashioned and sewn on they were mostly permanent. That is, I don't think most of them were made to be taken off and put back on the sheath. I have seen some military frogs that had buckles so you could detatch them though. There were other ways of attaching the leather to a sheath like this. Some were made so it was a single belt loop. But this one was the most common, I believe.
