I was wondering if there were anyone else out there with 4" DMT Diamond Whetstones like mine that are visible convexed.

Second, what effect would a convex sharpening surface have when sharpening with the aligner stone holder and a knife clamp device.

The angle from the middle and end might differ like 1-2degrees, doesn't look too problematic to me, if you're worried, you could try contact DMT.

That actually looks pretty defective to me.

Are you using hot water to clean them?

I'm sorry,I forgot to mention that the picture of the fine DMT diamond stone was taken in it's unused state....brand new,how I got it. I bought it and another curved diamond stone(from Consumer Link) to upgrade my older Gatco sharpening system which had hones which were beginning to need replacement(hollowing out). With the curved diamond stone which is designed for curved blades,I could not see any issues the back of it was perfectly flat.I did use it to sharpen my Spyderco Tasman with surprising little effort and it came out razor sharp.....Those diamonds sure work fast.

I mainly decided to go DMT because they advertise that their diamond products are to within a 0.001".

I own six DMT stones. Everything from a double sided 4"x10", 4"X8", 2"x6", fine 2"x6", coarse and 1"x4" pocket stone with leather sheath. I would send mine back if I got one that looked like that. It may not cause any real difference when sharpening, but they should be completely flat, and if you ever use it to flaten other stones it will not work well. It will, just make them concave!

I did in fact return my diamond whetstone a few months ago under warranty directly to DMT.What they shipped back was the exact same item that was sent but with a few freebies and no explaination. One of the freebies was an extra coarse 4" diamond whetstone which happened to be perfectly fine,no convexed. In the package that I sent to DMT,I mentioned that I visited my local sporting goods store and found a coarse and a fine 4" diamond whetstone which had the identical convexed shape as the one that I just bought.

In the end,I ended up physically bending it by holding both ends with my finger tip and with my two thumbs, exerted force to the curved part to straighten it.Then checking both sides of the stone by laying it on a flat surface.
