I am looking at a Spyderco Temperance or a Entrek 4" fixed blade, but don't know much about either. Any suggestions? Thanks. :D

Busse Modle T Street. :D Get one at the Company Store for $187 and never look back!

Or if you want something cheaper, a Swamp Rat Howling Rat. The handle rocks, the steel is awesome, the knife in indestructable, and easy to keep sharp, and its under $100.

Model T Street - very good knife, very comfortable (everybody talking about INFI steel but it is just very well designed knife in general).

Also you may look at Fehrman Piece Maker.

Thanks, Vassili.

Hi !
One that i like a lot is the Fallkniven F1 : really versatile knife !
And for much less money(11$...) a K.J Eriksson Mora mod.711 : very nice and you don't worry about using it hard or even losing it ... :D

I guess I should have said a price range, so under $100. Thanks for the suggestions. The Ferhman's do they use s3v steel and what is it like? :D

Fehrman uses 3V its simliar to a non-stainless version of s30v. Good though tool steel. Check out cruicible's website for more information.

What are you going to use it for? Materials and designs work differently for different tasks.

Thanks for the great pics. I like the general design of the Busse but can you tell me what is the purpose of the forward hole in the hilt. I understand the aft hole is maybe for the lanyard but maybe there is some other purpose?

On topic:

My favorite is the Benchmade Nimravus Cub. Little buy mighty. Super design and ergonomics, cool sheath and within your budget.

I'll let nozh explain the concept and use of the d-guard, so I guess that just leaves me teasing you with it. It may be a vestigial organ leftover from bigger busses, but thats just my interpretation.

I noticed earlier today that KnifeOutlet has the Knives of Alaska African Hunter on sale this month for $10 more than your $100 limit. I must admit I have not read any reports on this knife, but the steel is excellent D2, and the handle and guard appear to be well-designed. The blade length is exactly 4 inches.

Oh yeah, and then there is Cabela's S30V version of the Buck Vanguard for around $100.

I found a Entrek Jag 440c for $59 on Ebay buy-it-now. I really like the way this blade looks but don't know any thing about it. I guess what I want is something for eveyday use, but stout enough to handle hiking or even camping. Thanks for all the info I appreciate mucho! :D :D

I usually see positive comments about the Entrek knives, but some criticism of the sheaths.

Of the two knives you are considering, I have the Spyderco Temperance. I use mine a lot for utility. The blade is made of VG10 steel, which is one of the best stainless steels.

If you want something a bit different check out the Helle Futura.

If you want 440C (like the Entrek), but want something a bit more traditional looking, check out the Northwoods Wind River.

If you like tool steel check out the smaller Northwoods blades. Dave Shirley's fit and finish is excellent for the money.

The foward or "Talon" hole is a registered trademark of Busse Combat. Besides that, it can be used for a D guard, attaching to a stick to make a spear or pole axe, or in the case of some of the older Busse's there was a sharpened D guard (Holy Tearer) that could be attached. The Holy Tearer also had it's own handle and quite rare.

For under $100, you really can't go wrong with either the Swamp Rat Howling Rat or Bandicoot, depending on which blade shape suits you the best. I've had a HR for about 3 years and love it. The 'Coot's' shape is a bit more SD oriented, but not strictly so.
