Does anyone have a recommendation for a larger ao/ flipper knife, hopefully with a 4" blade that is under say $300. Thanks for any ideas.

Is the non-assisted model using a bearing system? Thanks they're purdy! :)

to be honest, I don't know much about them. I've heard good things, but I don't know specific details like that. it's funny, the website, as far as I can tell, doesn't even list the blade length, but it appears to be fairly large

Yeah, strange that the page doesn't list the blade length. It's 3.625".

cziv, the last I knew the non-assisted model didn't use a bearing system.

Wait for the ZT/Hinderer flipper! There seems to be a chance that it will use a ball bearing system.

yeah, I'd probably go with ZT, or the DDR mid-tech. I suggested the DDR first because I thought it was much larger than it apparently is. The ZT 302 seems to be a similar sized knife to the one I recommended.

You guys are absolutely right. They don't tell you hardly anything about the knives on the HTM site??

I'm going to wait for the new Hinderer/ZT flipper - it's just that it's hard "not to be shopping" for or waiting for a new knife!! The addiction withdrawals set in. :D

Amen,cziv!

Cziv, are you the OP on a different account?

if not, then you want the ZT 030X. i have the slightly larger but less chunky brother, and it is an absolute beast. the 30X will do anything you need it to do.

No, I only have this account?? I sold my ZT 0301 because it was too much of a pocket brick and "never" saw any pocket time. I did like flipping it open as mine came with a super strong spring. :D

Thanks for the recommendation though.

Assisted or non assisted, I don't think either uses a bearing system unless you go custom.

You might want to take a look at the Boker Kalashnikov it is a 4" non-assisted flipper that goes for about $60. It just might fill that void without spending too much until the Hinderer/ZT flipper comes out. It is a decent knife I use for work all the time, easy to sharpen and at a price point that won't make your stomach turn if you beat it up a little.

Erm, I think assisted with bearing is a bit overkill and would shoot the knife out of your hand like a wet bar of soap:D.

Though if it's a choice between assisted and bearing, I would go for the bearing. Maintenance-wise, the one with ball bearings would be more complicated to take apart and put together, but I find that my limited experience with IKBS would show it to be similar to a bushing pivot system in that you twist tighten and forget about tweaking for the sweet spot. My Galyean Pro Turbulence also has very tight tolerances around the pivot area(tight as a Sebenza) and has not developed blade play(might have loctite in the pivot though). I'd also expect the bearings to outlast any spring in an assisted opener.

I also like that I don't have to fight the spring when closing the knife, and that can be quite a fight on my 0301 and its monster spring.

I would look at the Benchmade line up. The 581 Barrage I have fires like a rocket. Its only 3,5 inches though. I think a 4 inch AO under $300 is a rare thing. The biggest BMs are the Bedlam and the Onslaught but I dont know if those are AO's.
