Hi, I have 4 Japanese Hand Axes, also called Nata, for sale. I will post their specs and pics. If anyone is interested, please email me at vath2000@hotmail.com. Thanks.
I'm still learning about nata myself, but I understand them to be laminated steel for the edge attached to a soft iron core. They can be single or double bevel. Every one I've seen has had a partial tang going about 1/3 to 1/2 of the way into the handle. Their blade covers are usually pretty cheap. The wooden sheaths are allright, but the straps on them have a tendency to get cut when the blade is pulled out. The most common handle material is oak.
I'm in Japan, so Paypal is the only form of payment I can recieve, I think. Prices are paypal fees included. If you are anti-Paypal and you know of some other way to pay me, that would be fine, probably. Contact me and we can discuss it. Shipping fees are the responsibilty of the buyer. Without being too exact, the two smaller ones are about 15$ shipping each and the two bigger ones are about 20$ shipping each.
This first one is called an Ebi Nata (ebi means shrimp). It has a longer handle than the typical nata. I'm asking 80$ for it.
Total Length: 16.5 in.
Blade Length: 6.89 in.
Width: 2.17 in.
Thickness: .24 in.
Total Weight: 18.34 oz.
Double Bevel
Partial Tang
This is a Koshi Nata. This is the basic nata shape, but the blade sizes vary a bit. 75$ for this one.
TRADED
Total Length: 345mm
Blade Length: 165mm
Width: 51mm
Thickness: 5mm
Total Weight: 590g
Double Bevel
Partial Tang
This one is called a Leisure Nata. It's a smaller type good for various yard/camp activities. This one is 40$.
Total Length: 9.25 in.
Blade Length: 5.9 in.
Width: 1.3 in.
Thickness: .18 in.
Total Weight: 10.23 oz.
Double Bevel
Partial Tang
This last one is called a Take Wari Nata (bamboo splitting nata). It's another light nata like the one above. I have one of these and use it to split up fire wood. It works very well for batonning, and I think it makes a nice piece in a lightweight camping set. I will ask 75$ for this lovely tool.
Total Length: 12.8 in.
Blade Length: 7.1 in.
Width: 1.42 in.
Thickness: .18mm
Total Weight: 10.4 oz.
Double Bevel
Partial Tang
Well, I'm interested to see if anyone's interested.
