I'm seeing close up pictures of the Tan version of the 4-Max currently for sale showing Made in USA. I have checked several sites. The Grey version shows Italy. Are they making the 4-Max in the US again? The pics look current to me and you can clearly see "USA".

The tan versions were the first ones made and were made in the USA, they moved production last year to Italy.

I know about the first ones but bladehq and another site has the tan version in stock and they list it as made in "USA" and CPM 20CV steel. The Gray version shows made in Italy and is also CPM 20CV.
This is not making sense.

I just checked knifecenter and they also show USA. There is a review from someone from Dec of 2017 that just received the USA knife. So are these new old stock? I thought the USA versions would have been gone a long time ago.

I would bet they are old stock still lingering on the shelves, they are after all fairly expensive and a lot of buyers look for a less costly knife.

Old stock. The 4 Max isn't a brisk seller. It just hasn't been made in large quantities.

perfect knive

The long awaited first batch of USA made 4 Maxs to be delivered (1st Gen) were absolutely perfect. Subsequent batches delivered (2nd, 3rd Gen) had problems on some pieces (that Cold Steel fixed for those that sent them in), and probably why there is still some old stock of the tan handled models left. Search older posts on the 4 Max to know how to tell the difference between generations. Because of the inconsistencies of the latter batches, Cold Steel switched to the Italian made version (grey handle), plus were able to bring the price down a little. I've got a 1st Gen. 4 Max and love it! Glad I got mine when I did.

I have said this before, but I have a later batch made in USA that had a rocker bar issue, but it was fixed (annoying to spend that much and need it fixed), and now it is great! I am happy to have it. fwiw, I like the tan too :)

How's the blade to handle ratio on these. I like a folder with a blade as close to the length of the handle as possible.

Thanks guys that's quite a difference. I take it Demko's customs are the same then.
