I finally got a project completed that has been on my plate since last year.
4 Christmas knives for four brothers.
This is the fourth one, followed by the previous three.
She goes in the mail - today!
Done.
(I won't bother you guys with these anymore!)

I like how the patterns in the handles all seem to radiate from the underside. Great looking knives, brutha.

It's because they DO radiate from the underside. These are end-grain spalted maple cut from the end of the log, then stabilized.
The center of the log would be toward the bottom side of the handle.
In the top knife - #4 - on the close up of the handle you can see the growth rings.
Great observation!!

These look really great Karl. Excellent design, excellent materials and excellent use and orientation of the wood.

The black guards are a perfect match to compliment the blade and handle equally and tie it all together. What a gift!

Thanks for posting them all together here.

What John said. :)

I've really enjoyed watching you develop these, Karl. That's a very nice set, and for such a great purpose. Thanks for sharing them and for completing the story--I'd been looking forward to seeing the fourth.

I'd love it if Santa brought me such a present!!!

Blade shape and overall design are classic and very appealing.

;)

Thanks for all the kind words, guys.
It was a fun project and I hope fruitful for the four sons, and the father as well.
Merry Christmas to everyone and see you in Little Rock. ;)
