4...or 5?

I haven't done a knife video in about a month, and I'm a couple days away from my first $100 adsense dump. I haven't been hot for any knives since I have everything I need and like. BUT if I'm going to buy something for the channel, and I don't have a real NEED, I want it to be something that is well liked and different than anything else I have. The two obvious choices are the Machax and Magnum Camp. I have never handled either one.

The two couldn't be more different. And having never handled them, I'm not sure which I'd like more. If you were me, which would you pick and why?

OFF TOPIC: Why can't I ever say something like "The best survival knife ever" (referring to Jessica, my BK7 in my Pathfinder Canteen vid) without someone from the interwebz getting all upset because I didn't call HIS favorite knife the best survival knife ever? I mean, if I got upset over ever opinion on the web that didn't match mine, I'd lose it. The internet is an interesting study in psychology....

BK5! BK4! FIGHT!!!


Oh yeah...I'll entertain any other suggestions, if they are from makers close to the Becker family (Like ESEE)
 
Coming from someone who has not handled either the 4 or the 5 as well, my vote goes to the Machax. It seems like it would be the most different compared to other Beckers, but I've seen on videos that it performs similar to the BK-9. Its got a very interesting shape that makes it great for fine tasks as well as large ones.

That is my vote for YOU though, since you will be reviewing it. However, if it were for me, I would buy the BK-5. I like the fact that I could potentially use it for batoning as well as food prep.. and just the sheer fact that so many people on here claim that the BK-5 is their most used and favorite becker.
 
I think taking a look at how a BK5 could be used as a wilderness survival knife would be interesting. It's already regarded as a stellar fighter and food prep knife around here but I haven't seen a ton of stuff written about it's woodsy powers. The BK4 is a super woods knife but IMO isn't as good a fighting knife as the 5 therefore may not be as versatile ( or is it? :eek: ).

I have both and have used both quite a great deal but never stuck to just 'one' for all my needs. I will be the first to admit that a lot of times it's not the knife that isn't up to the task but my skill and creativity with the blade that falls short. Since you mention that you like the BK-7 a great deal I'd suggest getting a 5. Similar size and both have a tactical design angle. I'd grab my 5 over my 7 any day but for me to leave my 9 behind I'd have to be six feet under...

I'd love to see you do a video on the 5. It's one of those knives I'm constantly really close to buying but just never do. Sure I'd love it if I bought it, just haven't been able to make myself pull the trigger yet.

5...you could do the hanging rope cut and hopefully your blade doesn't end in the back yard. ;)
 
I vote the 4.

If you've handled some of the other beckers you have a feel for what the 5 is like. It's not the same of course, but you have a better idea of what you're getting.

With the Machax, it's not really similar to any other knife in the bk&t lineup, therefore less familiar to you if you've never handled one in person before.

I think i have a great idea of what the 5 is like (having never handled one before) and could pretty confidently tell you that i'd love one. With the 4, however, none of my knives are anything like it really, so i am very unfamiliar with it. I'd get tons more info and purchasing persuasion from a video on a 4 than i would a 5.

I don't have either one and would like to see you do a video on the BK-5. I have a BK-9 for chopping and I'm curious as to the versatility of the BK-5.
 
I vote for the BK5. It is a truly under rated, under appreciated knife. VERY fast in the hand. Yes, i have one. I have a BK4 as well.

Damn! I love those G10 scales on that! Where did you get them?

If I went with the 5, I would Fo' Sho' have to get a new sheath. I'm thinking leather. Anyone ever done a BK5 in Kydex?

With the BK4, I could live with the stock sheath for a while, until I could get an azwelke.

But then...I'm not "qualified" to do a video on either, just like I was informed today by a viewer regarding my GI Tanto review, LMAO. Now that I am approaching 1000 subs, the haters are starting to come out. I find them terribly entertaining. I imagine them sitting in their moms basement surrounded by empty mountain dew cans and posters of Master Chief from Halo 4 telling me how I suck.

AZWelke does kydex for the 5.

And that ReedamBeIslam guy is all over the map. His YouTube account history is a fun read. This guy makes enemies a lot.
 
My vote is for the 4. But in my opinion you can't go wrong with either. I seem to find new ways to use my machax every time I go out. Regardless of the choice, keep up the good work with the vids.
 
Sure would be helpful if Google Adsense would send me my PIN. Money is stacking up and I can't get to it.
 
I don't have either, and as much as I'd love to see a vid of the 5, I'd love to see one of the 4 too...
If the funds would permit it: make both vids :D
