4 orphan Fiddlebacks

Curious outcome. Days later no interest. Wonder what's going on?

Here we are on BF which means there are more expedient ways to find a knife. For better or worse, that seems to be the simple truth of it. Personally speaking I wouldn't watch a 48min video to shop for a knife. Additionally making a purchase via PayPal family and friends eliminates any recourse the buyer has if there is a problem...Hey It happens! These are simply my personal thoughts about this and shouldn't be construed otherwise!

I fast forward the video and checked the prices....I have no interest. Are these your knives on consignment?

Apologize if my post was too cryptic. Im not the seller. I, like a lot who read and post here, go to other places on the web as well. ApostlePs been a fairly interesting youtuber, though become more "commercial" of late, I admit. To spare you and anyone else, if you expand the comments and look to the left you can see the knives for sale, listed. 4 of those are our much liked Fiddlebacks and if you click on the specific knife/link) it'll take you to the specific knife auction. Point was though that same list shows these 4 knives didn't sell and have had no interest. So I wonder why we think thats so? For instance ApostleP hasn't developed an audience for these? Price issue?

Over a good amount of time, I've enjoyed watching ApostleP's videos. If ever a folder caught my eye, he is one of several resources I'd go search to see if they had done any sharpening or review videos. (example: Without taking this flippin thumbstud off, is there a technique to sharpening this knife on an Edgepro) I don't recall his content covering fixed blades ever and was surprised to see him showing fixed blades for sale (or maybe I just never searched his videos for fixed blades). So I think the answer to your question is that his audience is probably folder-centric.

That being said, I kind of always appreciate a potential lead on Fiddleback sales ;-)

And I am still curious about what method he'd use to sharpen a Fiddleback .. keep it convex or do a flat?

Knives sell or don't sell. A few reasons his might not be: he's not a Fiddleback guy and he's not posting in the place Fiddlebackers tend to find them. The prices are high considering the soft market we're in.

The kicker for me is that's he's a business requiring friends and family payment.

Warrior 108,

He's been doing fixed blades for awhile with a strong bent towards Bark River/Escanaba. If you click on the videos pulldown on his youtube channel and search a bit you can see he's done road trips over the years, GEC, Bark River, KSF. He's developing a... not sure what to call it.... "circle of influence", (maybe), in Escanaba as well as Titusville. He goes to the Bark River Grind ins, hangs out with several other knife makers and sellers who have moved to the Michigan UP, eg. Jesse Hemphill, KSF and others.

That said, his evaluations of folders are generally interesting, if occasionally biased (what reviews aren't?), seems he's on a bit of a learning curve for fixed blades. He credits Mike Stewart with teaching him how to sharpen concave. Has a video or two where he demonstrates. To his credit I think, his first attempt didn't come off so well, as the ensuing demonstration was a little embarrassing, but he acknowledged it in a subsequent video, went back and tried again. I dug that bit of honesty. I've been curious as he's never covered a Fiddleback in any review. And, while I don't follow all his auctions, I'd never seen him try to sell a Fiddleback, so when these 4 popped up I was curious. Indeed it could be he has not developed a following for the Forge. Its also possibly true many who come here, are kind of "tunneled" for a time, (I was), just here. The fiddleback addiction being what it is.

Ive been watching the Fiddleback Flea Market and sales at KSF, etc and it seems things have slowed with attendant price adjustment downward. At least that's my impression. So was thinking an alternative selling resource could be of value.

I'm happy that ApostleP is auctioning some Fiddlebacks. These knives would sell in a millisecond on Fridays if they had the exposure they deserve.

It's hard to spend the amount of money in advertising that some large manufacturers spend and every bit of exposure is good.

The folder market and the fixed blade market really don't mix. Its wierd. Back when I used to try, I couldn't sell anything on USN. Loved the forum, but just couldn't sell there. Much more gadget interested crowd. Not suprised by this.
