Hi all, from some recent threads looking at buying one of these, I decided to make one kinda like Boar-Gen's a while back. I have the stick with 4 sides, and a rough handle. I have the belt to cut up and glue on. I have the different polishing compounds. Now all I need to know is rough or smooth side out on the leather. The leather belt I am using has a rough side (not too rough) and a smooth side (quite smooth). I am worried that the smooth side won't hold the polishing compound. I know the rough side will, but will it work as well?

oh ya, and pictures so far. I used the SS to do a really quick (and I mean quick, that thing removes shavings fast in this softer wood). I still need to sand the handle a bit, and I did not worry about making it perfect.
