Since so many people on this forum just couldn't shut up about Case's Chrome Vanadium Steel , I simply had to try it for myself. http://www.flickr.com/photos/47188396@N06/sets/72157625411370913/
What you see is all earned. I used the main blade and kept the pen blade unused. The tip of the main blade kept hitting the backspring, so it took awhile for me to get a proper edge along the whole blade. I was also experimenting with different lubricants.
Long story short, I HATE TufGlide for my slipjoints. I do a lot of food prep at home, so it was readily exposed to apples, tomatoes, garlic, onions, and celery. All in all, I've think I've found my new favorite blade steel. It responds well to stropping and holds an edge with the best of them. And it's affordable too. :)
So much that I just ordered a CV Mini Trapper just so I can cut my apples with confidence. Thanks for looking, take care.

Good looking patina, Nate! Now you just have to even it out!:)

I like both Case CV and SS, but I do slightly prefer CV. It seems like they have even slightly improved their heat treat over the last decade especially on CV, at least to me!

Sweet little peanut. That CV sharpens quick and cuts like a laser!

I like both of the Case steels, each for different reasons. I like the beauty of both the stainless and the CV, just in different ways. The CV seems to get a touch sharper for me and holds an edge a tiny bit better, but I certainly can't say I'm disappointed with the Tru-sharp knives I have. I have to admit that I'm not put off by the patina of a carbon steel blade, but the clean look of the stainless is nicer to my eye.

Again, I like both steels and have a few of each and will continue to buy both steels on patterns that I like. For some reason, I want my Case Stockman patterns to be CV and prefer it in the trappers as well. This is probably my early knife owning/using years coming into play. Knives like the Saddlehorn and the Copperlock, I prefer in the Tru-sharp, but the reason is not clear even to me why that is so.

Anyway, over the course of 2010, I find myself carrying carbon steel blades more often than stainless. Not sure what that means, but on December 7, 2010, that's the way it is.

I am with you. I have heard bad things about the Stainless from case, but I have one and it is a really good steel! I want a CV case knife, but I am thrilled so far with my Case Stainless
