Great pics Pit.....I love this time of year. So much to learn.

That JK looks loved man.

Great time of year for the edibles. Are you harvesting any of those for consumption?

I munch on the Miners Lettuce as I hike but other than that I'm kinda just waitin for berry season !!!;)

Gotta love the berries, eh? ;)

Cool pics, need to get my wild edibles knowledge up a bit more before I am comfortable IDing them for myself.

Wow Pit, almost didn't recognize you without your shirt on...Doc will be clueless and think somebody stole your identity:D:D

That's just truly awesome. This is a skill I'm really lacking and starting to get into. I actually have four books at my side right now and did a little walking around the property. I need a few to bloom before I can be sure, but my son did find some domesticated onions gone wild.

Excellent identification and good photography from Maisy!

Hey Rock,

Book(s) on poisonous plants in your area are equally, if not more, important as wild food books and remember the forager's adage: "When in doubt, leave it out!"

Doc

yo Pitdog or Doc, can you recomend some titles for us to refer to?

Wild Harvest: Terry Domico.

Edible Wild Plant. A North Americanfield Guide : Elias & Dykeman.

Plants of the Gulf and San Juan Island and Southern Vancouver Island: Collin Varner ( Great little book and should still be useful for the Mainland).

You're abolsolutely right Doc! I use to think "why the heck do they put poisonous plant ID pictures in the books/cards with edible ones"? Well, once I think I find what I'm looking for, chances are there is a poisounous one that is quite similar...always good to double check and when in doubt, let your buddy try it out:D

Good stuff neighbor. I need to get out and totally relearn my plants. No time like the present.

Hey B5, pitdog would be a much better person to advise because he lives in the same area. The 4 plants he mentioned don't even grow here, AFAIK.

If you check here, you will find some poisonous plant books

and here for some wild edible books (scan down a little bit). You will notice that there are a couple that are location-specific for western Canada.

Doc

Wish I could identify local plants like that.

BTW, Pit seems to have grown a dog's leg.

I'm far from an expert buddy but my top tip is to learn a few in your area that are easy to recognise and then just add to that group slowly !

Nice shots Pit!

H#ll, my whole back yard is full of wild onions, dandelions, plantain and wild carrots lining the sides :)
