I was cleaning up my favorites folder and came upon this
link for modifications to the HF/Gizz/etc. 4 X 6 metal cutting band-saw.
Many probably already have it bookmarked, but I didn't think it would hurt to post it. There are also links to info/mods for the mini-lathe and mini-mill. The guy really has some informative pages up.

Hi Guys, here's another link for a mod:

http://www.homemetalshopclub.org/projects/sawstand/sawstand.html

This is the one I'm planning to do on mine. Since I've put a large work rest on my Portaband and have been using it, I've been much happier than I was with using the 4x6 hor/vert. bandsaw. I just hang the Portaband on the wall next to my vise and when I need to profile something, I just take it off and clamp it in the vise and go to work. Much less of a footprint in the "dirty" part of the shop. I'm just going to convert the 4x6 into a dedicated horizontal cutting saw like in the modifications in the above link.

While I have a Milwaukee Portaband, it'd be interesting to see if using one of those HF ones would be a reasonable way to go. They go on sale from time to time for something like $70. I run mine wide open for profiling and it zips through tool steel like butter. The bimetal blades can be purchased for $18 for three from Grainger. Anyway, this might be another lower cost option for someone looking for a bandsaw...

You're welcome Charlie.

Mike and Darren, thanks for those links. Think we might have
covered all the bases for it yet?

Darren, thanks also for the port-a-band info, I like it.

Regards,
Greg
