40 DEG sharpener recommendations

Hi, could I get some recommendations for a small portable sharpener that has a 40 DEG (20 DEG + 20 DEG) bevel angle? It seems all of the cheapo pull through sharpeners have a much wider 60 DEG bevel angle, way too dull for me. I want to go with the pull through option because the blades are 8"-10" in length. I'm just not skilled enough, and lack the proper technique to use a small pocket stone on very large blades out in the field. Thanks.

DONT use a pullthrough. youre better off with a piece of tattered toen sandpaper or a belt sander. I would recommend a sharpmaker by spyderco, but if you've been using a 60 degree carbide "sharpener" , its gonna take a long while for you to bring an edge back.

A DMT magnaguide with coarse to finer grits would fix your edges and put MUCH better longer lasting edges than those pullthrough POS things.
A sharpmaker would be good for maintenance
A lansky Crockstick set with extra long rods would be good for maintenance
there are so many better options

I think it's strange that even Benchmade sells a pull through sharpener. I don't recommend them though.

Thanks for the reply guys. I never bothered using a pull through before because of the unpractical carbide angles they use, but people sure love that Accu-Sharp for some reason. I looked at the Spyderco Sharpmaker, but it didn't seem big enough for use on an RTAKII or SP50. Are the rods long enough to handle such large blades? I might just have to buy one for my folders, everybody seems to have a very high opinion of them.

I have never had to re-profile a blade before, but this new Ontario SP43 I just received (AWESOME KNIFE!) has a very steep and narrow primary bevel, practically unusable. If I bought the Diamond rods for the Sharpmaker system, would this be good enough to properly re-profile my SP43 back to a good 40 DEG bevel? Thanks.

It will sharpen all of those. I use the sharpmaker to sharpen a Hossom Forager, 10" chefs knives, my 13" machete etc. The diamond rods will help you reprofile an edge much faster than the brown/white rods. It should be sufficient to reprofile your sp43 and 50 and RtakII . IF they arenent reprofiling fast at all, go get some sandpaper and wrap it on the rods :D
