found a Paratool at a pawn shop and am debating over whether or not to buy it. they want $40 for it. would this be a good price? looks to be in good condition.

I have previously bought a Paratool on eBay for $40. It was new in the box. They seem to go for a bit higher at retail stores. Searching closed eBay auctions will give you some idea of the market price (atleast for the last 30 days).

It looks like a used Paratool recently sold for a low $4.99!
check if the lanyard loop/plierhead flip tab is secured with a bolt (in which case indicates an early model).
this feature enables complete removal of said "flip tab", which would not be possible on later models which were riveted.
also, early production models came with a hard box-like black zytel thermoplastic slip-in-tool case with integral loop/beltclip.
later model had the usual cocoon nylon 'n velcro sheaths.
