The story behind this is that two well known local fishermen from the black coast report tv show were reeling up a smaller catch when a good size Barracuda (with) razor sharp teeth takes the fish on his line and goes literally flying higher than I've ever seen and lands directly in the boat after being caught on the line for about 15-20 seconds. Somewhat of a dangerous situation for a novice; these guys on the contrary played it supercool recognizing the danger of the teeth...they were able to get the boat started and hit the throttle sending the monster to the rear of the vessel, upon which they were able to release him. Kinda Takes all the fun out of the catch but what a site to see. Fight or flight- quite literally. Barracuda are usually known as a great: medium to large size sport fish famous for their sleekness, speed, predatory tactics, and unrivaled teeth, highly regarded for putting up very fun and aggressive fights that rival much heavier fish they will fight you left right down and all over, they are also famous for jumping to try. Break the line free I have never seen one jump quite this but I have had small shark and . In the winter time they come from the black coast to the gulf coast in heavy schools to breed and feed in the clearer warmer waters. You can see them swimming by the thousands near the surface of the water feeding on schools of pompano and plump feeders. They are also joined by huge Mackeral, I think spanish or king which you can catch with a reflective spoone type jig or lure weighted trolling at medium to slow speed just under the surface with a weaving action I'm your lure. Mackeral has a very strong taste but is s favorite of many and is very healthy. I look forward to expanding my knowledge and skills so I can get out to deep water and bag some yellowtail, tuna, grouper, snapper, flounder, and I always love
the strictly sport fish as well, cant wait to get down to biscayne by way of aventura/miami. I'm lucky to be on lake tarpon near the tarpon bayou. And surrounded by great fishing in every direction.
Im currently restoring a 1986 fourwinne I/o open sport fisher 21.5 foot , convertible window and mini cuddy. The boats hull is in perfect shape and is very close to their 2012 model other than weigh a few lbs more. Just finished rebuilding the wrotted floor with wood and fiberglass and was able to find a real nice salvage teak deck.
next step upholstery, painting and pinstriping when I get some money my buddy has a shop so we are gonna do a really nice silver or royal blue, coyote tan, od green, white, off white or possibly yellow paint job with wicked pinstriping haven't fully made up my mind it's gonna have a lot to do with the availability of marine grade interior upholstery because some of those colors are gonna be hard to find and or far more expensive ....my buddy has a full shop so I lucked out their as well he is gonna do all that for a fraction of what it would cost and build a custom snap on cover.
I lucked out big time with the engine and out drive , I was going to have to buy a brand new or refurbished out drive, propellor, and hydraulic lifts as well as get the carb rebuilt and new belts fuel lines etc, so I priced it out and it was gonna cost me like 7 grand+. I was thinking about just selling it and putting that money into a wave runner, q A few months later a bandit came thru the marina and cut thru the fence and stole a bunch of peoples stuff, he or they hit around 22 boats in non consecutive nights. Stole my old out drive, the hydraulic lifts fish finder, radio, old antena and tried to disconnect my engine block. Long story short....the marinas insurance tried to say everyone had to pay for their own stuff but it was pretty easy to prove they knew their was a security problem and a string of reported thefts and never installed cameras or fixed the spot on the fence where the barbed wire was downed from a tree fall in the corner the hurricane season before....long story short they paid for factory refurbished out drive, brand new propeller, brand new lifts lifts, new fish finder, gps, radio, antenna, rebuilt my carburetor put on new fuel lines and belts and gave her a tune up where they found a cylinder that was not firing that they were able to fix pretty easily.....so I got to save that money and buy some nice deep sea reals and rods, get the console fixed so I can gauge my speed and fuel, buy a much nicer fish finder, radio, antenna, and gps, fix the lighting, for no money out of pocket.....I ended up having money left over when it was all said and done. Can't beat that! Now it's time to do some work on the trailer axles, new bearings, tires, brakes lighting and crank life, amd wench....boats running good, interior looks like shit so I been putting sheets over it. but damn it I done lucked out some up there likes me.
Between reupholstery and painting I should have the money saved up and I am aiming to be fully operational this winter to take full advantage of the winter skyway bridge fishing season and island camping ....then I gotta invest In a nice stowable inflatable survival dingy and a membership to a reputable towing service and I would feel confidant taking her no more than 25 miles off coast which is far enough for recreational fishing and access to the party islands. I am working on a towable 50 gallon drum to hold cargo but there is a lot of storage I am just thinking if I'm taking 10 people camping it would be cool to have a side barge or two to put all our tents and sleeping bags/ food and gear, beer, first aid and trauma kit, ar15, Snody knives etc.
I'm really excited I have been so depressed lately I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and I just want to be alive again, I love the gulf of mexico I love the wildlife and the nature and how perfect the tides are, the tide goes in and out and brings all the plankton and kelp to the plants, it's like a giant reef system...dolphins everywhere, giant sea turtles....man I just wanna live and be free and love. I'm getting happy just talking about it.
I feel fortunate, because I got the boat and trailer for dirt cheap, my buddies dad was gonna donate it to goodwill because they had it since 87 and they use to have property the could keep it and they got foreclosed on so I got the boat and fairly new trailer for installing 1100 sq feet of wood floors and it took two days and my friends helped and it was so easy there were only two doors to undercut and the rest was a long open
If anyone has any good fishing tips or stories I'd love to hear them. I have been carrying a Snody Boss for utility tasks and cutting bait and keeping it clean and well oiled. Mostly on freshwater because lake tarponis just across the street, im anxious to see how corrosion resistand some of these differnt steels are inthe gulf. In addition to that I have been wearing the special edition tan spyderco h1 salt around my neck. That thing is a powerhouse for its size whoever designed that is a genius.
As a side note the boss cleaned up very nicely , i got a little more fish on it than I would have liked but the resin paracord was a nice buffer and cleaned up with some soap and some clenzoil field and range and some elbow grease with a small sponge and shop towel. I'm impressed.
Anyways I can't wait to finish the hobby and post some pics, it's nice to have a hobby to live for. I believe god wants us all to find happiness and friendship through hobbies and nature. And you get back what you put in. I'm very interested to hear some of yall' fishing/outdoor/knife experiences so please feel free to share! As a side note I can't wait to do some duck hunting next season. Also some bow hunting, and of course I love to curb the hog and coyote population with a nice rifle.
I love to learn from more experienced forum members so please please please share some of your stories and knowledge!
God bless, hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the time they get to spend with their families. If any of y'all are gonna be in Florida you are more than welcome to join us for some bass fishing or wakeboarding/tubing
