A friend of mine is looking for a $40 "tactical" sheath knife to put on his Airsoft gear. It won't need to be used for much but he would like it to be solid and sharp. I gave him all I could think of but I haven't been following the "tactical" knife area latly. So I wondered if there is anything else you guys could reccomend?

Thank you for any info you can give. :D

CRKT has some tactical looking fixed blades (cord wrapped tantos) for around that price. If he just wants it for looks, the mediocre AUS-6M blade shouldn't bother him much.

If he wants a real knife, tell him to go to a pawn shop or surplus store and pick up an old Marines or Army knife like a Ka-Bar. Not really "tacticool", but still looks "badass", and is a much better knife (make sure it's a real one, and not a knockoff though).

Iv got a CRKT first strike (cord rapped) I was not impressed :grumpy:

Well tactical is a pretty broad term. Is he more into Police/SWAT gear or into Navy Seal & Marines type stuff? And if you don't me asking, how old is he?

Reason being is you said its to go with his Airsoft gear. From what I understand, Airsoft is similair to paintball minus the paint. The guns look more realitic but they use very soft pellets. I thought mainly children and very young teens played Airsoft. If that is the case with your friend, it's probably a good idea to have him get some CS Rubber Training knives.

If he is old enough (and mature enough) then one solution might be a ColdSteel True Flight Thrower. A factory 2nd will costs about $15, he'll just need to buy shealth which ColdSteel sells seperatly. The handles are wrapped in cord (which personally, I don't like but he's just going for looks here right?), and the blade is black coated. Definitly has a "tatical" look. CS also has the Para Edge neck knives. Those go for about $35. But if he wants a good solid performing fixed blade knife, tell him to get their SKR (Survival Rescue Knife) for $50.

For a great folding knife it's really hard to beat the Camillus Heat for the price. I got one for $41 shipped on ebay. The black plain edge version looks fairly tactical. The supplied sheath is worthless though. Instead use the clip or buy a custom sheath.

I would seoncd the idea of getting a Ka-Bar, as it is very well known as a military knife and very recognizable as tactical. Not the best piece available, but it is pretty cheap, and is a very usable knife. New can be had for about $50. . If the price MUST be kept under $40, and used would be ok send me an email if he is interested in this model.

I would also say that a CRKT should be fine, for what he seems to want it for. If he is putting it on his Airsoft gear I would think it is more for looks than anything else. As such CRKT makes some nice looking tactical fixed blades, and they are usable if you don't need anything really hardcore.

Sometimes you can get a $25-$30 camillus USMC fighting knife for that much. Others to try:

The Cuda Archlite
Cold Steel Bushman, SRK, Throwing knife
A Rageweed Forge Mora

Ther Gerber Profile at Wal-Mart doesnt look to bad. It has a kind of subdued tactical sort of thing going on. It's only $20. Also they have a combo edge green and black Buck Nighthawk for $40. You could go by your local Wal-Mart and check them out. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the ideas guys. To answer some questions, he's 24. And in airsoft believe me the pellets are not "soft." They are plastic rather than metal. And that's where the soft part comes in. Getting tagged by one of these from an upgraded gun will leave a good bruise and a small welt. But nothing like a paintball gun will.

He has been around knives all his life, he just never got into the mainstream area. I think he prefers the SWAT style knives like the Camillus CUDA CQB Black Ops series. He liked those a lot but being 24 can't make up his mind like so many of us. The whole "black rifle" style of knife I guess is the I can describe his taste. The Ka-bar impact series has his interest also.

But as I said I have not followed the new "tacticool" (as it was so excelently put) style of knives. So I am here looking for other ideas. :D I suggested these and he is considering them.
