Is it just me or is $400 wayyy overpriced for a regular fullsize microtech socom. they even want $175.00 for a spyderco harpy. the website is called www.countryknives.com. let me know your thoughts.

Wow, that's some high prices. I've never seen a store that charges more than retail, even in a mall. They've got a hell of a selection though.

But I'm more supprised that there's a town in PA called "Intercourse".

It gets better, the beautiful Amish town of Intercourse is next to the town of Paradise, so if you want to get to Paradise you must go through Intercourse first as the locals say. :D

I have been there its a fantastic knife store its between paradise and blueballs go figure. I guess the selection represents Paradise, the Prices give you blueballs, and if you find what your lookin for its like intercourse. Anyway its a nice store with a great selection(only problem doesnt carry chris reeve?? wtf) but I agree there prices are pretty high on some things but they carry some items that I dont see many places including some european stuff, and older items.

Sounds like instead of intercourse you are getting screwed!!!

I saw an Al Mar SERE 2000 for $220... a Buck 110 for $60 (and your signature on a contract that permits them to drain blood from your sleeping body).

I bought knives in there once, yeah, no self control. Great people, great service, great little store, but the prices are ungodly high. I asked the owner why his prices were so high over MSRP, and he said something like "people can easily bring back their knives if they have a problem"   . I had a problem, I paid too much for the freaking knives. If you want to go and look around, leave your money and credit card in your car, better yet, at home. Great atmosphere, great selection, great people, but just terrible prices. Save your money and buy here or on eBay.

if you really sit down and think about it, most knives these days are massively overpriced in relation to other classes of market goods. and i dont just mean limited editions/customs, but production knives like benchmade, spydercos, buck striders, CRKTs, etc. for example, if you think it costs benchmade anywhere near $150 to produce your balisong you are in for a shock. id be suprised if it costs them more than $10 to produce.

but kives - customs and limited runs especially - are a collectable item and therefore they sell for more money.

do you honestly think that beanie babies are worth hundreds, or even thousands of dollars? yet they sell for that much all the time. same idea, although by no means am i dumbing down knife collecting to the level of beanie babies. knives are useful items that can last multiple lifetimes.

but in this day and age, really, knives are one of the few items that there is still a sizeable profit margin on. most electronics, home applicances, etc sell at pathetically small margins. so i dont mind paying a premium for decent knives, because i save the money on all of the underpriced things i buy every day. kindof a messed up mentality, but it works for me. you cant win all of the time.

cheers,

I've made the trip to thier store one time, also. It is a fantastic store, especially considering how hard it is to find even a semi-decent selection of knives to actually look at in person around this area.

No, they do not go below retail on any of thier knives that I know of. That hasn't stopped me from buying a few knives from them though.
I found a few older Benchmade knives through them that had been out of production for a number of years. The price? Retail. Retail which was lower than some of them were now selling for. The same goes for some of the limited knives they carry. When the price jumps, and you can still get it for retail, it's not a bad deal.

It's a great shop with great service and great people. It's worth the trip, and it's worth buying something from them also if you go.

I have some family that lives within about 20min of that store. I've been there twice so far during visits. I only bought one knife there though. It was an older BM Balisong. Price was retail, but the piece was long since discontinued. Overall it's a nice store with nice people.

The showroom looks phenomenal.

Costs money to keep the lights on and all that cabinet glass cleaned!
